Stratford Manor hotel
Date of stay: 18th July 2009
Number of nights: 1
Number of guests: 2
Cost: £59 through last minute.com
Reason for stay:
It was our nieces birthday and we needed somewhere to stay nearby to where they live.
Originally we booked a room at the Alverston manor through lastminute.com. But a few days before they phoned us to let us know the booking was cancelled because of over booking and that they had re located us to the Stratford Manor. We were a bit annoyed at first but after looking at more information on the hotel we were happy.
The hotel is situated on the Warwick Road. It is a bit out in the sticks and not ideal for exploring the main town. You would definitely need to drive into the town centre.
But it has quiet surroundings and the area around is very peaceful and pretty.
The hotel offers its own free car park. It was very busy on arrival so we had to park right at the end. But there are a few disabled spaces near the hotel entrance.
Some very very nice porches, Lamborghinis and Ferraris in the car park as well.
On arrival the reception area was very busy. We waited about 10 minutes to be dealt with. Mostly because they had some "moaners" to deal with in front of us.
The welcome at reception i have to say i found a bit strange!
Usually we stay at travelodge, premier inns etc and i believe that the welcome is better in most of these hotels.
The receptionist was a Brown haired South African male who just seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else!
Don't get me wrong he was friendly he was just a bit "odd".
There was no instruction as to where anything was, no times for breakfast etc. I just felt it wasn't very personal and like he was almost trying to just get rid of us so he could get back to whatever he was doing before the mad rush!
Our room was very lovely indeed..
It wasn't the biggest room in the world but it was very well equipped.
On the left hand side there was a lot of wardrobe space with plenty of hangers (which is usually what hotels lack).
On the right hand side there was a large bathroom with shower over bath, sink and toilet. Also plenty of complimentary items (shampoo, conditioner, shower cap, shower gel etc.) The bathroom was very clean and tidy.
In the main area of bedroom there was a large very comfortable bed, large desk with writing paper etc, table and two chairs.
Overall the room was very comfortable and well equipped.
Breakfast the next day was really delicious and quite possibly the best breakfast i have had in a hotel before.
The room it was based in was slightly dingy and lacking daylight BUT the food was amazing.
The host greeted us and showed us to a table and told us where everything was (maybe he should be on reception!).
There was a great deal of choice on the buffet. Plenty of cereals, yoghurt, fruits, croissants, toast etc.
There was as much tea and coffee as you could drink but if you asked they would also bring hot chocolate (highly recommended)
Then there is your choice of English cooked breakfast which you could help yourself to as much as you can handle! Fried egg, scrambled egg, sausages, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, fried bread and black pudding.
Lets just say we were stuffed when we left!
The hotel has a number of facilities such as a swimming pool but unfortunately we didn't have much time available so we didn't use them!
