      Would visit again

We needed somewhere to stay when we decided to spend the weekend at Alton Towers. We could have stayed at the on site hotel but this is very expensive and therefore I thought I would have a little look on the travelodge website to see what they could offer. I noticed that they were having a sale so typed in Alton Towers postcode to see what came up. There were a number of travelodges in the 30 miles surrounding Alton Towers, all varying in price from £70 a night for a family room to £29. We knew we would have the car anyway and none of these were exactly on the doorstep of Alton Towers so we decided to go for the Burton travelodge which was the cheapest option at £29 per night. We booked for 2 nights last weekend.

Finding the travelodge was ok, we typed the postcode in the sat nav and ended up on the dual carriageway. It is worth noting that the postcode given actually takes you away from the dual carriageway and you may actually drive past the travelodge like we did, thinking that you have a few miles left to go! Therefore if you do plan on visiting here and are using a sat nav, keep your eyes peeled a few miles in advance! The travelodge is not the one pictured and is located on the A38 road, there is also a travelodge opposite on the other side of the dual carriageway. There is a Little Chef next door and a large car park with plenty of places to park.

Going into the travelodge we were greeted by a friendly woman who asked our name and made conversation with the kids. She was very helpful and asked if we wanted breakfast (we declined but it costs £5.50 per person) and gave us some vouchers for Little Chef which gave us 15% off, she then gave us our room key and gave us directions. There was a vending machine in the reception with snacks and drinks and also essentials such as toothpaste.

The room was easy to find and was on the ground floor. I am pleased to say you could not hear any traffic noise from the room which was brilliant as I am a light sleeper. The room itself was a little tired, the duvets were crisp and fresh and there were enough duvets for us all, there was a mark on one of the covers but because it was late we didnt bother asking them to change it. The childrens bed I had assumed would be like a sofa bed but it wasnt, although it was a sofa, it was actually a pullout bed and a larger bed. Luckily for us this was ok as my niece is very small, however I wouldnt recommend putting any children over the age of 7 or 8 on the smaller bed as it is simply too small. There was a hanging rail but no wardrobes and bedside tables next to the double bed. There was a TV which had freeview and a good picture and tea and coffee making facilities, these were topped up each day but it is worth noting that the beds were not and neither were the towels, this didnt bother us as we were only staying 2 nights but I'm sure if we had asked they would have been happy to change them. The carpet looked very tired and although the surfaces in the room were clean I felt the carpet really let it down as it looked very grubby.

The bathroom was the biggest let down of the room, the tiles were cracked and dirty and the toilet flush had a hole surrounding it. Alongside this, the bathroom constantly smelled, something which I can only assume was due to the hole behind the flush. We only wanted the room to sleep in so this wasnt too much of a problem for us but if we were spending longer in the room I would have had to complain and ask to be moved as it was not a pleasant smell at all!

We all slept pretty well which is always a positive, there was no noise overnight and we were all refreshed for the day ahead. After our first night, someone did come in and make the beds while we were out but as I said did not change them or the towels. I would have rather they didnt bother making the beds as they moved all of our things but there was not a door hanger which we could display saying we didnt want the room done. Checking out was simple as we just put our keys in the box.

I would stay here again due to the convenience and the price. Due to the fact that we were only using the room for sleeping in we spent little time in it and therefore luxury was not high on our list of priorities. The main issue was the bathroom and I imagine that we just drew the short straw here and got the wrong room! In conclusion, it is similar to the majority of travelodges - a little tired but at an affordable price.
