In fact, you can't get closer to the beach unless you sleep in the sand dunes. This past weekend we toured East Sussex. Two adults, a 16 year old, a 3 year old and a one year old. We initially looked at Rye, but could find little or nothing for the right price at the last minute. I found the Blue Dolphin Motel (YES a motel in England - strange, more of a North American thing, and not often seen here) on the internet. Finding adequate accommodation in Rye at the right price was not going to be easy at the last minute. The Blue Dolphin is based on the edge of Camber village and is literally across the street from one of the main parking lots for entrance to the beach. You walk to the beach in seconds. You can also walk to a local pub, shop and fish and chip/breakfast bar in minutes. While the Motel is not aesthetically pleasing or oldy worldy in any way shape or form, it offers clean, simple, and excellent value for money accommodation. The building is newly decorated, spotlessly clean, bright and spacious with everything you need of a Motel room. The staff were very friendly and well organised. You can park right outside your door - which is a real bonus with all the equipment little ones need. Good for wheelchair access I would have thought.
We rented a family room for £45/night, which included an ensuite bathroom, one double bed, a single bed, and a sofa which folded down to a large double bed. There was a TV and coffee/tea making facilities. If it had a fridge this would have been even better! But we had a cooler which worked just fine. A triple room was £40 and I think a double was £35.

We would definitely visit again - the proximity to the beach was brilliant.

My only complaint would be the cooked breakfast, as the sausage was pretty grim, but there are other alternatives available which are fine and the service came with a smile.
