Advantages: Lots of facilities., Very clean.

Disadvantages: Lack of sound proofing.

This Jarvis hotel is situated a few miles from the centre of the city of Gloucester.

The hotel is a modern building set in very spacious surroundings and is combined with a Country Club. There is ample free parking space at the front of the hotel.

There are 107 bedrooms and although the rooms are not enormous they are very comfortable and clean. Every room is en-suite and has a satellite TV, a hairdryer, a radio, a trouser press, a telephone and tea/coffee making facilities. I was a little surprised that for a modern hotel there was not a telephone point available for Internet access in the room.

One fact that very quickly became apparent at this hotel was the lack of sound proofing in the rooms. During the night we were often woken by people in the corridor or surrounding rooms.

The hotel was extremely clean and tidy throughout and the staff were very friendly and helpful. However, the hotel did seem to employ a lot of youngsters and often when we were making enquiries these younger members of the staff could not always answer our questions and had to go and find a more senior member of staff. This was not a major problem, but perhaps a bit more staff training would not go amiss.

There are a number of bars around the hotel, some of which also sell food. The main restaurant is also used for breakfast, which was the only time we had meals during our stay. There was a vast choice for breakfast and plentiful supplies of everything (hot and cold). The quality of the food was excellent, although I would have preferred the cooked food to have been a bit hotter.

The Country Club facilities are available to all hotel residents and the majority of these are free. These facilities included:

* Tennis Courts.
* Swimming Pool.
* Spa Bath.
* Sauna.
* Steam Room.
* Solarium.
* Golf Driving Range.
* 18 Hole golf course.
* 9 Hole golf course.
* Squash Courts.
* Table Tennis.
*
Pool.
* Snooker.
* Gymnasium.
* 2 Dry ski slopes.
* 2 Dry nursery slopes.
* Snow Boarding.
* Ski Bobs.

Where charges were made these were very reasonable. Charges were for such items as hiring golf clubs, ski lessons etc.

As you can see from the list there was certainly plenty to do at the hotel, there was no chance of getting bored. These facilities were open from 7.30am - 10.00pm and were never very busy. In the changing rooms everyone was provided with free towels and a personal locker.

We spent most of our time in the hotel around the swimming pool area and this was very relaxing and enjoyable. My wife used the Sauna, Steam Room and Solarium, but I preferred a gentle swim and the use of the Spa Bath.

Overall we were pleased with the hotel and the vast array of facilities available there. We just felt that a few slight improvements would have turned this good hotel into an excellent one.

I am sure we will go to another Jarvis hotel, but perhaps not this one.
