Advantages: Lots to see, experience, at no cost

Disadvantages: All in Hull

Hull has quite a few museums some of which are of national and international importance.

William Wilberforce (famous for helping to outlaw slavery) was a Hull man. His house is now a slavery museum full of all sorts of information including a mock-up of sleeping area on a slave ship and examples of various equipment used.

Ferens Art Gallery has a number of outstanding exhibits, both classical and modern. It's worth a visit and has a pleasant cafe to the rear.

As Hull was a very important port at one time, the fishing industry was huge. Unfortunately since that time the industry has died, but there is a museum dedicated to fishing and whaling. This is a fascinating museum and has good disabled access. There's plenty to do and see for children which is why all of the local schools have trips here.

There is also a Transport Museum that has a significant number of old modes of transport. This is another great museum for children as they can sit in various vehicles i.e. an old trolley bus. It's another favourite for school trips.

These museums are all very close to the City Centre, just a short walk away. The Council has recently ceased charging entry fees. Not a bad day out for adults and children alike.
