      Very helpful

Don't stay there. Go further afield if you have to get more for your money.

I have only been to Inverness once, and although I loved the town, I did not enjoy my stay in my hotel.

I stayed in the Winston Guesthouse, which is in an absolutely fabulous location. It is right near the centre of town and is only just across the river from the castle. The front of the guesthouse is on the riverside itself.

Despite the excellent location, I feel that I paid an unfair price. I paid £50 for one night in a single room with breakfast. My single room was tiny. To get to it I had to go through the guests' common room (which was a bit intimating to consider baring in mind that I was a lone female traveller who would be coming back to the guesthouse late - who knows who I would have to encounter just to get to my room?), and up some stairs. The stairs were very narrow and had a sharp 180-degree turn on them. I had no problem with the stairs but can envision problems for those less mobile than myself.

The room was tiny. I had to shuffle along the side of the bed to get to the miniscule en-suite bathroom that was little more than a toilet and a sink and a shower curtain. All mushed together. The bedroom had the bed, a simple bedside cabinet that there really wasn't space for, one shelf which had the kettle and other 'amenities' on, another shelf that the telly sat on, and a rack underneath that shelf for hanging clothes up on.

I felt like Harry Potter in his cupboard underneath the stairs.

There was supposed to be free access to wifi in the building, but I was told on checking-in that it was only really accessible from the common room. Same problem again - lone female traveller, do I want to take my laptop down to a commonroom? No. I did try to access it from my room just on the offchance, but no luck there.

In the morning I expected a hearty breakfast for my £50. The dining room was down an even narrower set of stairs (huge problems with access there, folks!) and felt really dated. Decor aside, it was a nice enough space and had a good atmosphere. It took a while for the lady to come to my table because it was busy (not her fault, and absolutely not a problem), but upon browsing the menu I couldn't find a full breakfast option. I would never have eaten a full breakfast as it was, but for £50? I'd've ordered it and eaten the sausages.

I was really disappointed with my stay in that hotel, and wouldn't recommend it. I stayed in October 2009, so that £50 was probably the off-peak price, too. Totally not worth it.

Good small freindly hotel. Home from home

The Craigmonie hotel in Inverness is good. Its a tradditional Scottish hotel and very freindly. They seem to have spent quite a bit of money on it over the last couple of years. The rooms and the leisure centre all have been done up in the last year.

I go up to Inverness on business usually once a month and in the last two years i have stayed in various hotels but this is by far the best value for money.

I was up about 4 weeks ago and because its out of the tourist season my room was about 60% cheaper than the propper rate.

The swimming pool is a bit small as is the sauna but they are good enough for a relaxing swim and wind down.

The breakfast was lovely and although it is buffet style the food is very fresh and has a proper home cooked feel to it.

The staff are some of the most freindy helpfull staff i have come accross.

The hotel feels homely and family run.
