The Loch Tummel inn in Pitlochry lies in the heart of Scotlands best countryside. With extensive views of the loch and the mountains, it makes a nice get-away, even if the weather goes against you!

The old coaching inn has good-size rooms which are tastefully decorated and very clean. The owner of the hotel, Michael Marsden, has televisions for every room and will be happy to supply them on request. However, he and his wife Liz believe that the Strathtummel surroundings are the main attraction, and nothing should detract from the magnificent views from almost every window.

But dont worry, guest's comfort is not compromised in any way as all rooms have private facilities, full central heating and all the usual mod cons. The comfort here is not luxurious but is more than adequate.

The inn makes full use of the local produce of the area, and actively encourages local people and local customs to become part of its charm.

Downstairs there is a large lounge which serves bar meals of a very high standard and can be enjoyed with a refreshing pint of quality ale. The local braised lamb fell from the shank on gentle inspection with the fork! The vegetables which accompany it were tasty and wholesome. Afterwards, the Blairgowrie strawberries and cream made for the perfect desert.

The owners do like to buy in as much local produce as possible and this allows us the luxury of eating venison from the hill facing the inn, Crab from Buckie, Perthshire lamb, as well as Scottish beef and salmon, which are world renowned.

The freshly prepared food is one of the major attractions to this charming, family run inn. The other, of course, is the unbelievable scenery. The countryside is perfect for leisurely walks.

Prices at this hotel in a double or twin room range from £30 to £50 per person per night. It is well worth it!
