Hotels in York in generalNewest Review: ... by a drunk and to be honest the area around the hotel didn't fill either myself or my girlfriend with much confidence of it not happening again - there's just an air of uneasiness there. Having said that, once you know where you're going you've only got a 5 minute walk to get into the city ... more |

N.B. Once again theres no category for the Travel Lodge in Piccadilly in York so this un'll have to do. Now I'll warn you now - I'm not the greatest of Hotel-Goers, I'm one where as long as there's a bed and a roof, I'm happy, but when she who must be obeyed and I decided to go to York for a few days (culminating in a good ole Paddy's Night P**s-up) it was obvious that it had to be a decent hotel - and with it being short notice - the only half decent hotel with vacancies was the Travel Lodge on Piccadilly, so of course - a booking was made and before you knew it I was destined to spend 4 nights there. ** Booking Process ** ... I LOVE York! It's a great place to visit for a romantic weekend, or a shopping trip, for sight seeing, people watching and having a drink (or two) at the pub. I've lived in York for over three years and have visited the city for both business and pleasure since moving away. "So what is accommodation like in York?" The answer is ... "it varies". They also made you leave your bags in an exposed position which was not at all secure. I would also like to say that the decor in the rooms was terrible, with an old fashined and also frilly feel to it. The standard of food at Breakfast was also awful, sausages were very schrivilled. The only english the staff at Breakfast knew was "What do you want for Breakfast", I have not known that poor standard of English in a forign hotel let alone an English one. ... I recently stayed at the Posthouse, Tadcaster Rd, York and as I usually find with this brand of hotel it is always the same quality. Though for the price (£60) I feel that the quality should be a lot higher than you get. The location of the hotel is very close to the racecourse and very handy for viewing York itself. The price for breakfast was also a shocker at £11. It is a well laid out buffet, handy if you can eat as an olympic sport, but a little expensive if you only want cornflakes and a cup of tea. ...
