Advantages: Good value, nice environment
Disadvantages: dodgy cleaners!!!!!
I've stayed in this hotel on two occasions now, and have mixed feelings after the second visit. I'll explain in a minute. The hotel is situated about 5 minutes walk from Coventry city centre, probably about 10 minutes walk from most of the pubs, and 15 minutes stagger from Coventry's clubs. As such, it's a well-placed hotel, just outside the ringroad, for east access to everywhere. Inside the hotel is pleasant, a bit "chain-hotelly" which is what it is, but it's nice. And although I was booking in as a 21-year-old "Miss" together with boyfriend, nobody batted an eyelid, which was great. The rooms are 42 quid a night, fair sized, and, again, pleasant. The bed is large, there's tea and coffee making stuff as per usual, and a lovely bathroom which has a HUGE shower, loo and sink. As it's a fairly new hotel, it's all very swish, and modern. All in all very impressive. I have one gripe, and that is the courtesy of the cleaning staff....I'll explain... At 9.30 in the morning, we were asleep. Booking out time is 12 in Ibis hotels, and afte finishing work at about 10pm that night, we were both tired, and were planning to sleep until about 10am. I though this would be fine as we'd stayed the previous week, and the cleaners had avoided my room (I assumed that perhaps they knew who had booked out and who hadn't)...on this occasion, at 9.30, there was a knock on our door. We were both , erm, awake, active (so to speak), and still in bed, rather undressed. I called out to say that we weren't decent and it'd be good to come back later, but despite this, we heard the sound of a key in the lock, and the door openening...so I ran behind a door (being naked), and told the cleaner to come back. She was fairly matter-of-fact about it all, didn't apologise and shut the door. Most embarassing. So, being caught naked in a hotel room was rather awkward
, but still it's a nice place, and I'd recommend it. The snack bar and food is very pleasant, and the staff are nice. Just it's best not to be interacting in a sexual way with your lover at 9.30 in the morning. In other words, make use of your "do not disturb" sign...you've been warned.

- 09/09/01 Yes, thankyou for pointing that out...my point was that they disregarded my calls to come back later... |

- 09/09/01 The cleaners probably come across a lot of guests who aren't quite decent at that time in the morning, it's not as though it's unexpected. Dusting can be very dull, I think they do it on purpose ;o) |
