~*~*~First Impressions~*~*~ Our first impressions were great. The hotel is located on a busy street in the heart of Chinatown, Manchester. The reception was clean and tidy and the hotel certainly came across as a quality place to stay. An absolute bargain!! The reception was modern, quite contemporary in style with a bar area to the left. It was very welcoming. ~*~*~Rooms~*~*~ The hotel has 127 rooms. I believe that the rooms in Ibis hotels are very standard and all look the same - this tends to be the norm with hotels of this type. If you need a bed for the night in any major city these days, the choices are virtually endless, and Manchester is no exception. From mega – budget (translate as “flea pit”) up to top end luxury, there are a wealth of different standards of hotel and I’ve experienced pretty much every one of them, I think. Some of them should be closed down (I’m thinking Sacha’s and the Britannia) and some of them just need to get a reality check (I’m thinking of the Midland and the Lowry). It’s a sad indictment of Britain that our hotels have such a poor reputation amongst the visitors to our shores. Now, I know that’s something of a generalisation and I accept that there are exceptions. However, as a rule, British hotels are poor value for money and far from up to International standards of quality. It’s all the more ga[u]lling (sorry about that) that we have the French to thank for showing us how it should be done. If there is one nation on Earth that knows how to do hotels (other than the Yanks), it’s the French. Anywhere you go in France you find chains of hotels that offer great value for money.
