Advantages: A city centre hotel.

Disadvantages: Rather austere looking restaurant.

I made a one night reservation for Bed and Breakfast at Jury's Inn, Glasgow for Friday 18th August 2006 to enable me to meet up with some of my fellow Ciaoers the night before the Glasgow meet.
Shortly after I 'went public' with my intentions I was persuaded to extend my stay for an extra night - so I made a separate reservation for Bed and Breakfast for Saturday 19th August 2006 at the same hotel.
Both bookings were made using the same travel agent and both were for single Bed and Breakfast occupancy of a guest room.

Entering the lobby of the hotel I proceeded to the reception desk which was directly in front of me. A very friendly and smiling receptionist welcomed me to the hotel and proceeded to check me in to room 507.
I explained about my two night stay being booked as two separate one night stays and she assured me this would not be a problem, as she would link them together on the computer system. She laughingly told me that I most certainly wouldn't have to check out and in again on Saturday morning.

I was issued with a plastic keycard which I was informed would operate the lock on my room door and also control the electric power within my room. I was not informed of breakfast timings, however this information was in the leaflets within my guest bedroom.
I was then directed to the bank of lifts to the left of reception and told that room 507 was on the fifth floor and to enjoy my stay.

Exiting the lift on the fifth floor, room 507 was visible on my right and was actually a room on the corner of the building with a double window, one of which afforded a lovely view of the River Clyde and part of Glasgow city.

The room was very spacious and was nicely furnished with an extra large (6ft wide) king size bed with small wall mounted tables on either side, one of which housed the room telephone. A two seater sofa, a small table, a dressing table/desk a chair, a minimalist wardrobe (no door) with plenty of hanging space and shelving and a case stand completed the room furnishings.

On top of the dressing table/desk there was a TV, table lamp and a connection point for a notebook pc. A hairdryer was housed within the top drawer of this desk.
On the wall beside the desk there was a unit which housed the tea/coffee making facilities.

There were two mirrors within the room - a full length wall mirror and also one attached to the wall above the dressing table/desk.

There were plenty of lights within the room, however it most definitely was of the 'mood' variety and I'm not too sure that anyone would be able to work with such subtle lighting.
The air conditioning was controlled 'in room' and was extremely efficient.
The décor was very fresh and clean and in muted reds and creams - I found this very pleasant and relaxing.

The ensuite bathroom was small but perfectly adequate with an overbath power shower, WC and washbasin. White towels - two hand size and two bath size - were supplied, along with a bath mat and these were changed as required.
Soap dispensers were situated at the washbasin and the bath.

Both the guest bedroom and the ensuite bathroom were immaculately clean, the housekeeping team deserve 11 out of ten for the standards in this room.

On the left of the entrance to the hotel is the Inntro Bar which serves light meals and snacks, along with drinks, throughout the day.
Situated to the right of the entranceway is the Innfusion restaurant which has a full menu and is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

The only meal I had in the hotel was breakfast each morning.
This was served buffet style in an almost austere setting, in the Innfusion restaurant.
On the buffet servery there were various cereals, some fruit, fruit juices, croissants, toast (very lightly done) jams etc. Also there was a very basic cooked selection, this consisted of bacon, sausage, black pudding, beans, hash browns, fried and scrambled eggs.

I enjoyed my breakfast on the first morning of my stay, however it was marred a little by the fact that the plate I had to put my hot cooked food on to was cold and there were no hot ones available.

Breakfast the second morning also had its problems….as well as having hot plates for the cooked breakfast, there were hot glasses for the chilled fruit juice and to my consternation (I love black pudding) the black pudding was so overcooked it could've been eaten as a crispy biscuit.

Once I had unpacked and met up with my friend Gina, who was also staying at this hotel, I noticed (on my guest id card) that I had only been checked in to the hotel for a one night stay.
Accompanied by Gina, ( who actually was only staying for one night) I returned to the reception desk where I was attended by a different, but equally as friendly, member of the reception team. She noted that an error had been made with my checking in procedure and assured me she had now corrected it.
Reassured by this Gina and I left the hotel for some retail therapy.

During the second night of my stay at 04.40 I was awakened by a noise, which was actually the chair which I had placed across the doorway to my guest bedroom crashing to the floor.
I was immediately aware that there was a male person in the hallway of my room, he appeared to be intoxicated, and was holding what I took to be a beer bottle in one hand and a keycard in the other.
When I shouted at him to leave my room he thankfully did but the experience left me very shaken and upset.
I immediately checked that my room door was locked and replaced the chair in front of it and then I phoned the hotel reception.
The young man who took my call appeared to have a decidedly unconcerned attitude for my safety………his response to my tale of an intruder in my room being…..the system showed room 507 as being unoccupied and it had been allocated to a gentleman who was now back at the reception desk requesting another room.

I was unable to get any more sleep after this incident as it had really unsettled me.

After breakfast on Sunday 20th August 2006 morning I requested an interview with the Duty Manager of the hotel regarding what had happened to me in the early hours of the morning.
He listened very attentively and then requested the Deputy General Manager of the hotel to join our conversation.
It became obvious that they were very concerned by what had happened and they were both very apologetic and stated that the checking in procedure had not been properly conducted.
I was advised that I would receive a full refund - by cheque - of the cost of my two night stay at Jury's Inn, Glasgow and that staff training procedures would be examined.
The taxi I had ordered to take me to Queen Street train station was paid for by the hotel.
On Monday 21st August 2006 I had a telephone call from The General manager of Jury's Inn, Glasgow. He informed me that he had been made aware of what had happened and he apologised for the litany of errors which had occurred and informed me that staff training procedures would be upgraded.
He also informed me that hubby and I could have a complimentary two night stay with breakfast at any Jury's hotel in UK/Ireland.

Thursday 7th September 2006……Today I received a letter from the Deputy General Manager of Jury's Inn, Glasgow along with a cheque to cover the cost of my two night stay at this hotel. The letter confirmed a reservation for hubby and I at one of Jury's five star hotels in Dublin for later in the year. This reservation was made by The General Manager on our behalf.

I do not think I have the confidence to return to Jury's Inn, Glasgow just yet, although I am sure that it will most probably now be one of the most secure hotels in Glasgow for lone female guests following this incident.

I also think that on the whole I would not deter anyone from staying in this hotel. I reckon that at £65.00 per night B & B, sole occupancy of a very comfortable double room, in a city centre hotel is reasonable value for money.

N.B. The hotel has rooms which are suitable for the disabled traveller, although the room which I occupied was not.
Hubby and I always place a chair in front of the door when staying in hotels......we laughingly call it our alarm system....we won't laugh any more.

I am now the owner of a personsal alarm.

Summary: A well located city centre hotel which unfortunately has a rather austere looking restaurant.
