Advantages: Three of the best hotels in the city. Bargain prices currently on offer.

Jury's Hotel at Ballsbridge in Dublin was a Dublin institution for more years than I care to remember. I say *WAS* as unfortunately Jury's in Ballsbridge is no more, as Jury's and it's two adjoining sister hotels, the Berkeley Court and the Jury's Towers, were bought by a property developer a couple of years back (at *ENORMOUS* cost!) to feed the seemingly insatiable appetite here in Dublin for new apartments, offices, and commercial and retail premises.

The plan was/is to knock down the three hotels on the site and replace them with a huge new development that includes a skyscraper, (one of Dublin's first) a large shopping centre, a new 5-star hotel, restaurants, cinemas, and, of course, the now almost obligatory apartments. But the original plan ran into problems with both the local residents and with the Dublin planning authorities, and is currently in the process of being completely revamped.

So after closing all three hotels down for a week last Autumn, the said developer then seemed to suddenly realise that it may actually take him years before he gets all his planning difficulties resolved. So the hotels quickly reopened again, but under different names. They are now called D4 Hotels (all three hotels including the old Jury's) and to all intents and purposes are exactly as they were while they were still under the ownership of Jury's.

The difference is now the price. Rates now start at an amazingly low Euro105 per person per night. I say amazingly low as the old prices were *FAR* higher than this, and to get a 4-star standard hotel such as the old Jury's that is located so close to the city centre and with every comfort and amenity that a guest could wish for this low price has to be the bargain of the year!

I'm not going to go into huge detail about the actual hotel. Suffice to say that Jury's was one of the top 4-star hotels in Dublin for generations. Much loved by both locals and visitors alike, it was constantly packed to the roof, and has bars, restaurants, and guest facilities that were (almost) second to none. (It was/is bested only by the 5-star hotels like the Merrion, Shelbourne, and Four Seasons) If you want more detail on the actual hotel then you'll find it on the new D4 Hotels website at "http://www.d4hotels.com".

This review is simply to inform any dooyoo readers (or visitors to the site) of the amazing value that is currently on offer if they are planning a visit (business or pleasure) to Dublin's fair city anytime in the near future.
