Advantages: quite atmosphere, helpful staff, great breakfast

Disadvantages: none

Finding a nice hotel for a reasonable price in London isn’t as easy as one should think. London probably has the widest range of accomodation in Europe but watch the rates...! If you are not willing to pay a hundred pound or more per night (incl. breakfast if you are lucky) you’ll surely end up in one of those “3-star-family hotel” in a London suburb.

If you are lucky to get a promotional rate for the K+K George Hotel in Kensington, try it. It’s really worth it. At the moment they have a winter promotion for GBP 75,-- per night for max. 2 adults and 2 children incl. buffet breakfast. The third night is free. This make a rate per night of GBP 50,-- (rack rate GBP 160,-- per room per night incl. breakfast).

The 4-Star-Hotel is located in Kensington in a quite street just two minutes walk from Earl’s Court tube station (District Line, Picadilly Line, Picadilly Line exit temporarily being closed until March 2002), Circle Line can be reached from High Street Kensington which is 5 Minutes away. Under Austrian Management the K+K Hotel is a really stylish, European hotel with an international clientele. They have multi-lingual, very friendly staff.

The ca 150 rooms are brightly decorated with light brown wooden and rattan furniture. There are double/twin bed rooms, some have an additional sofa bed to accomodate children, some with desks for modem connection. Of course they have air-condition, central heating, a mini-bar, tea/coffee making facilities, Sat-TV with foreign programmes, enough mirrors and wardrobes. The bathrooms are with power-shower and a small bathtub and have a hair dryer. The beds are very comfortable with European blankets and are “properly made up”. On request they have anti-allergic blankets, too.

Included in the room rate is a great buffet breakfast. It consists of fresh fruit, fruit salad, yoghurts, cereals, cornflakes, fresh vegetables, saucages, quite good cheeses,
marmelade and jam, honey, chocolate cream, eggs and traditional English breakfast. You’ll find toast, croissants, rolls, dark (European) bread. Tea, coffee and juices, of course. All this in an excellent quality. Breakfast is served between 6.00 and 10.30 in a nice breakfast restaurant overlooking the garden where you surely can sit too in summer time. There is low background music, no TV, no-smoking and no-mobile. For people urgently in need of smoking there is a coffee/tea and juice bar in the lobby area.

Room service is available until 22.00. The restaurant is open until 22.00, the bar until 01.00. You can easily find restaurants of all kinds and take aways all around the hotel.

There are conference facilities and parking space in the surrounding streets. Seems more or less safe as I saw quite a lot of Mercedes and the like.

I can realy recommend the K+K hotel. It is not too formal but not this kind of noisy tourist hotels where you can go to the restaurant in soccer shirts. You can really relax there after a long shopping or business day.
