Advantages: A grand array of cocktails
Disadvantages: Expensive
Currently undergoing refurbishment, Kandinskys Bar is part of the larger Kandinskys Hotel. It was formerly called The Savoy, which once, famously, hosted the Beatles on their UK tour during the 1960s.
As such, the bar and hotel have a long-standing and fine reputation. It is a classy cocktail bar, situated in one of the poshest areas of Cheltenham, at the top of Montpellier, slightly out of the town centre.
Inside, you're in for a pleasant surpise, with a large, spacious foyer providing some comfortable lounge chairs. On the left, a grand old dining room used by hootel guests. On the right, is the main bar area which is tastefully decorated in welcoming colours and carpets throughout. There are some fine ales and an array of classic cocktails on sale. All drinks are expensive, with a pint of lager costing around £4 and a cocktail about £8.
The clientele largely consists of hotel guests and businessmen/women. Everyone is smart and polite with a distinct lack of yobs and chavs - always a nice suprise on a Saturday night in Cheltenham town centre these days.
There are a plethora of large and relaxing sofas, as well as a conservatory area where you can sit back and admire the stars over a nice drink.
All in all, an under-rated and classy joint with some terrific cocktails and a nice atmosphere.
Summary: Put Kandinskys at the top of your bar crawl
