Kinmel Hotel (Llandudno)
Advantages: Friendly & helpful staff, ideal location for a visit to Venue Cymru or Llandudno's shops.
Disadvantages: None that I can think of!
Having booked a ticket to see John Barrowman at Venue Cymru in Llandudno, I needed to book a hotel too. As I was going on my own, I wanted something within a short walking distance to the theatre. Looking on Google Maps and on review sites, I decided that Kinmel Hotel would suit my needs and so booked a room via their website www.kinmelhotel.co.uk (which links to Eviivo to take the online booking).
I booked a Standard Sea View Double Room for £60 for 1 night (paid in advance). I thought this was a very reasonable price, especially considering it's proximity to Venue Cymru and the fact that it was half-term that week. Also, I was able to pay via PayPal.
A few days before my stay at the hotel I needed to check if they had a WiFi connection as Take That concert tickets were going on sale while I would be there and I didn't want to miss out. I emailed the hotel and I received a reply within 3 minutes... I was already impressed with their service and I hadn't stopped there yet!
Getting to Kinmel Hotel is easy. I arrived via train and it's around a 10 minute walk from there. You simply head to the Promenade, turn right and the hotel is about the 5th hotel down on the right. As I arrived on foot, I didn't have to worry about parking, however it's advisable that you don't park on the Promenade as there is a time limit there. Kinmel Hotel have their own car park which is situated around the back of the hotel.
I checked in around 2pm. Check-in was swift and the receptionist was very friendly. We even got into a conversation about Take That! Once again I mentioned the WiFi connection (which is available in the hotel's public areas) and I was told to just go to reception when I needed to go online and they'd give me a code to access the internet.
My room was on the second floor and so I took the lift up (I'd got my laptop in my bag and it's not the most portable of laptops!). My room was next to the lift, but I didn't notice much noise from it.
My room had a lovely double bed with a beautiful wooden frame and a lovely purple satin & cotton duvet. There were 2 bedside cabinets with ornate lamps which turn on and get brighter when you just touch them... Yes, they kept me amused for a few minutes! The room also had a wardrobe, TV, desk and a couple of chairs, as well as a fireplace. The desk had a kettle, along with 2 bottles of water & 2 glasses, 2 mugs, sachets of Galaxy hot chocolate, tea, coffee, sugar, UHT milk and chocolate cream bourbons! The room was tastefully decorated and I felt right at home. The en-suite had a toilet, sink and a shower, complete with shower gel & shampoo provided.
I spent an hour or so sat in the comfy chair by the window overlooking the promenade, doing some people watching and reading.
The Kinmel Hotel has 27 bedrooms and adjoining bedrooms are available, if required. There is a bar & lounge by reception and the drinks are reasonably priced. The bar also has a TV. There is a restaurant on the lower floor, where you can have breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, however I didn't eat there.
The hotel is very well situated with Venue Cymru and the shops just a couple of minutes walk away. It is on the Promenade, so the beach is just across the road. The pier is nearby (and well lit at night), as are the Great Orme cable cars.
The hotel staff will try to accommodate any needs you have, including booking taxis etc. I found the staff to be very helpful and friendly.
Access: There are steps up into the hotel, but not many, and as previously mentioned, there are ground floor bedrooms available as well as a lift to the upper floors.
Some of the hotels in Llandudno do look a bit rough and in need of some care & attention, however I thought Kinmel Hotel stood out from them and was very respectably presented.
Top notch service and room. I'll definitely stay there again when visiting Llandudno!
Summary: A top notch hotel in Llandudno!
