Advantages: Delicious food, lovely atmosphere

Disadvantages: Restaurant very expensive

My aunt has a caravan in Edmundbyers in County Durham, and while staying there we went out for a drive and found this pub/restaurant/hotel. The hotel itself is in a place called Blanchland.

The building housing The Lord Crewe Arms is actually a listed building. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, and it was busy, but everyone was minding their own business.

We had a couple of drinks, then we asked the barman if we could order some food, and he directed us to a separate room, which was really cosy and we were particularly impressed with the coal fire, which made for a very cosy and homely feel. Later, after eating, we also found out that there was a separate restaurant, and we were disappointed that we were not given the choice.

Nonetheless, the food was served quickly, and the portions were generous, but most important absolutely delicious. Roasts were the order of the day, but that is to be expected wherever you go on a Sunday afternoon.

Our daughter was made to feel very welcome, and a highchair was provided without us having to ask first.

The meal was delicious and the surroundings beautiful. A great Sunday out.
