Advantages: It's a top luxury hotel centrally loacted in Manchester

Disadvantages: Drinks in the bar can be quite pricey

The Macdonald Manchester is my favourite hotel in the UK. I've stayed there twice and despite normally being a Crowne Plaza girl, I absolutely love this hotel! It has everything you would expect from a luxury hotel and more.

Right, first thing's first - location. The Macdonald Manchester is ideally located for exploring Manchester - it is in the city centre just across the road from Manchester Piccadilly, which is the main train station you arrive into from many places in the UK (including London). Piccadilly also has a metro (tram) station too which means you can just nip across the road and get the tram to just about anywhere in the Manchester area, and of course being located in the city centre you can always walk to the famous Piccadilly gardens and other sites if you so wish to.

The hotel opened in 2007 and when you arrive, it really is impressive - it's a HUGE building with a lot of glass which looks absolutely gorgeous at any time of day! The staff are all really friendly and welcoming and checking in is a nice straightforward procedure (not like some other hotels I've stayed in!).

The hotel theme is dark mahogany wood with natural tones and some red for colour, and it is a colour scheme that oozes class - even the hallways feel like the most gorgeous hotel hallways ever!

The rooms are all done out in the same tones mentioned above and even the classic rooms are really big with lots of room to swing a cat (or 10!) in, so I imagine you could get lost in the executive rooms and suites! The beds are soooooo comfy you'll want to stay for ever and the LCD TV is a nice touch. There is also all the things you would expect from a luxury hotel room - a minibar, safe, ironing board and iron, complimentary water, tea, coffee and biscuits, a trouser press and broadband internet access.

The ensuite bathrooms are possibly the best thing about the Macdonald - they're really big and swish with a bath as well as a large walk in shower. The luxury complimentary toiletries provided are fab too!

Breakfast is included in many of the room rates at the hotel and it's well worth it as if you have to pay for breakfast on top of your room it is about £17.50 each. Breakfast is served in the restaurant and it's a buffet style breakfast which will keep you going all day as the choice is unbelievable. There is cereal and rolls, Danish pastries and muffins, yoghurts and fresh fruit, continental meats and cheeses and hot cooked items such as bacon, sausages, mushrooms, eggs, tomatoes etc

The hotel has a café bar for drinks and bar food, as well as an award winning restaurant for dinner if you don't want to venture into town.

The hotel also has a spa with full spa facilities and a fitness suite (although I have not used the spa or gym personally).

I really don't think you can beat this hotel - esp. as there are often offers for reduced room rates if you join the Macdonald hotels website mailing list. It's modern, luxurious and close to everything in Manchester. I think it's brill!

Summary: I love this hotel - it's my fave not only in Manchester but in the UK!!
