Advantages: Good central location, On-site hotel parking, Marriott name
Disadvantages: Small rooms, Better restaurants nearby, Lots of foreign staff
I occassionaly work in Glasgow City Centre so the Glasgow Marriott is ideally situated right bang in the middle of Glasgow and just off the M8 motorway.
The hotel is typically a concreate and brick building so no prizes for the external looks. Inside the reception and bar areas are light and airy with a typical city hotel style.
All the receptionists I have dealt with have been helpful and friendly and most are fluent in a number of foreign languages.
The rooms in this hotel left a lot to be desired, they are very small and the bathroom ceiling very low. In saying that all have the usual facilities and are clean. If you are on the river side and high enough up (6th floor and above) you can get some great views across Glasgow.
The hotel was due for a major rooms refurbishment at the start of this year so hopefully most of the 'tierd' issues have been resolved.
The restaurant was of adequate standard and the staff in this area were foreign with English a difficulty for some. A chef was always present at breakfast to cook items from fresh and the selection was up and above the norm. The food was average at dinner and service only adequate. I guess this is due to the nearby location of many of Glasgows popular restaurants.
This hotel has a small lesuire club with all the usual facilities and a very nice swimming pool. Being city centre the club was really only used by hotel guests and was generally quiet, in fact I have been the only person in the pool on numerous occassions. Great relaxation after a hard days work.
There is limited lounge space in the reception area so don't rely on that area for relaxation.
In essence the Glasgow Marriott is a good base rather than holiday location. I look forward to returning to check out the refurbished rooms and I would
suggest eating out in nearby restaurants instead of in the hotel.
All in all this hotel is in a good and handy location for the city centre and has parking, but thats about it. If you don't need to be in the city centre try some hotels a bit further out.
