Advantages: Friendly; fantastic breakfast; low prices
Disadvantages: Not in the heart of York (but not too far away)
This friendly B&B is situated on Fulford Road, about 10-15 minutes walk out of the city centre (it's also on a bus route, and fairly handy for the university). It's your typical converted Victorian house, decorated in the usual B&B style with lots of patterned wallpaper and carpet in the hall, and loads of pictures on the walls. It all feels quite nice and homely. The twin room I shared with my friend wasn't overly big, having a compact en-suite in one corner, but it was simply decorated (not too flouncy/chintzy) and the bed was comfy. It was also nice and warm, and the double-glazing meant it was quiet. There was the usual TV, radio/alarm clock, tea/coffee facilities (with nice biscuits!), and a selection of leaflets on York attractions. The bathroom wasn't too tiny, as en-suites can be, and the shower was good and powerful. Even the towels were soft and fluffy! I couldn't fault it. A nice big, bright lounge is at the front of the house, featuring comfy sofas, plenty of Hello-type magazines and a TV. At the back is the dining room, where you will be served one of the biggest and most delicious cooked breakfasts ever! (This is where the rather poor title of this review comes from - sorry.) Or, if you're a cereal, toast or fruit person, there's plenty for you as well. The lady who runs it is very friendly, and you only have to ask if you want something, or if you have any queries about York itself. In addition, the prices are more than reasonable (given the amazing breakfasts) - my friend and I paid £23/night each. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone wanting to visit York. - 26/04/03 Good Op, I stayed on Fulford Road recently and it's an easy bus ride into town. By the way the website link you added didn't seem to work. |

- 28/01/01 Ahh, the biscuits, a fine guage of hotel quality. Walkers shortbread is always worth one extra star on a review. |
