Advantages: Relaxing, secluded, fantastic food, great service

Disadvantages: Would need a taxi to get into Perth centre

We were looking for a place to have our wedding reception and had been given a tip off that Murrayshall was very nice. So off we went for a look...

From turning into the drive we were pretty much sold. The surroundings are very quiet and picturesque. The hotel itself looks out over the golf course and has lovely views for miles over Perthshire and the building is very pretty too.

The cocktail lounge has seating in the form of sofas and chairs, has a huge open fire, perfect for warming your hands on a cold winters day and is where residents can stay and drink after the main bar is closed. There is a very cute back cat who can be found curled up on the sofas, which we thought was adorable.

You get a very relaxed feeling when you arrive and wander around like you're in another world.

The restaurant overlooks the golf course too, and the food is amazing. The staff are very efficient and helpful and will cater for any allergies.

Round the back is the new annex, where the function room is and the more informal dining area where you can buy lunches etc.

There is a rose garden just off the main function room. The drinks are around the expected hotel price from both bars.

Everything is very clean and well kept and it's very much a family feeling you get.

We stayed in the Master Suite, which is directly above the cocktail bar (no noise was heard from out guest who were up drinking til 4am). The suite was amazing and consisted of: Super king bed, turret window, main window overlooking the golf course, seating area in the main bedroom with a TV, massive wardrobe, a separate sitting area with another TV, a huge bathroom with a shower/bath.

We had a fantastic wedding reception there, the staff were amazing and everything ran like clockwork. The rooms were lovely, the food was fantastic, the atmosphere was relaxing.

We will be going back every year for our anniversary.

Summary: Ideal hotel for a romantic weekend in Perthshire
