I stayed here back in November of 2004 with my husband and our friend. We stayed in a 2 bedroom home which was more than adequate on space for the 3 of us. Originally there was 4 of us but unfortunately our friend and his girlfriend had split up but even so there still would have been bags of space for the four of us! Even though quite some time ago now it would still be a useful review for anyone looking at holiday homes in Ireland
Excellent. The holiday homes are in an area called Tramore, which in the summer is very busy. The homes are set just a few hundred yards from the beach and a small amusement arcade. There is also a swimming pool with slides next to the holiday village which was actually open as it is all under cover but we did not go in so not sure how much it costs. On the beachfront there is a selection of shops and burgers stands etc (which were not open when we were there)
Just around the from the amusements is a small area where there is about 5 bars and about 3 or 4 restaurants. We didn't eat in any of them as we decided to save money by cooking our own food but we did try the kebab shop one night after a few drinks and it was very nice!
The thing we liked was back then Ireland was already non smoking in public places so none of the bars were filled with smoke which meant it was very nice to go in the pubs. (especially for me as i'm a non smoker). One bar we went in had a live band on one night and the place was rammed with the locals who were all very friendly and had us up dancing. We definitely experienced Irish craic!
Where the holiday homes are it is about 10 minutess drive to the city centre of waterford and in the day we went in to town to have a look around. Again there are a lot of shops and nice bars and restaurants and I would recommend a small bar that is next to Lily 'o briens sandwich shop as they do a roast lunch that is really scrummy!
Brilliant accom and I would not hestitate to return. The homes are pretty big and we stayed in a two bedroom home but, they also do 4 bedroom for bigger families. They have a large sitting room area with a tv and fire which connects onto the open plan kitchen which has a dishwasher and fridge freezer and breakfast bar. The kitchen has all the utensils you'd need whilst staying here but, the only downside for us was that as we wanted to save money by eating in most nights, we struggled to get everything that we bought in the freezer compartment of the fridge. This was my only niggle with the whole trip!
The bedrooms are also decent size and the beds really comfy! Loads of wardrobe space and we had a double bedded room which had an on suite bathroom that was very simple and clean with a shower, sink and toilet. The room also had a bedside tables and a dressing table with mirror.
The second bedroom was a twin room with a bedside table in the middle of the two beds and again a decent sized wardrobe. The second bathroom was right next to his room and so he took that as hiw own bathroom whilst we were there which obviously worked out quite well!
The holiday homes are all self catering but there is a restaurant on site which is next to reception. We didn't eat in there but I imagine it would be pretty busy in the summer. Also there is a small boating and fishing lake next to the homes.
The beach is only a few hundred yards away from them as are the amusement arcades so there is plenty to do although it would be a lot more lively in the summer months!
We only really came into contact with one member of staff but she was really nice! Upon arrival we were quite early and wouldn't have normally ben able to check in but, I presume becuase they were not full we were given our key and she let us go to our home. She was talking away to us and asking how our journey was which I always think is nice and overall when ever we did talk to her she was pleasant, polite and helpful - big thumbs up!
I thought these homes were superb for our trip - we had wanted a cheap deal for my husbands birthday and this home including our return ferry crossing from Fishgaurd to Rosslare only cost us £190 in total - what a bargain! Obviously this would be more in summer but the home you pay for per week not per person so even for a big family it would not be very expensive. I imagine in the summer it would be a fair bit more but still competitive.
I would highly reccommened anybody who wants a nice home in Ireland in a nice location to stay here - we travelled to Dublin and Cork whilst staying here and they are easily reachable. There is enough to keep you entertained in the local vicinity and lots more in the town centre of Waterford including the famous 'Waterford Crystal factory' that you can take a tour around which is impressive.
A good choice for a cheap break with friends or family!
