Advantages: 2 pools and leisure centre. Nice views. Chilled.
Disadvantages: No chips!
Having recently stayed at St Ives i thought i'd write a piece about the hotel we stayed in. The Porthminster hotel is fairly old hotel facing the St Ives Harbour. The views of some of the rooms alone our worth the price. Although fairly expensive the hotel is a 5 minute walk away from the centre of town. With internet cafes/surf shops/ice cream outlets i was well away! Just 1 minutes walk away is the exquisite little look-out point called The Malakoff. This look-out point faces over the harbour on the left side and Porthminster beach on the right. At nite it is one of the calmest/chilled places i've ever known, and when the harbour is illuminated makes a beautiful scene for all you budding artist/photographers.Also at the foot of the hill is a beach called (imaginatively) Porthminster beach (ooooooohhhh!). This beach is really lovely with gorgeous clear blue water (rarely found in england especially where i live, where your likely to find a sticky brown floater if you venture in the sea. Ick.).The beach has a little cafe/resteraunt to go with a perfect sea-side day. When booking at the hotel you get evening meals and breakfast included. The evening meals are quite nice considering they are pracitically free. Imagine your gramdma's cooking and you'd be about there. There are set menu's for every nite with about three - five variations of menu and vegetarian option. The food comes with selection of potatoes (No chips, dammit)and cooked vegetables (quite healthy really.)I wasn't too impressed with the food as i am a junk food feind and would rather be at KFC! But again if it's free i'll deal with it! The hotel has it's own leisure centre with a saune, jet pool/jacuzzi , indorr and out door pool which are fairly big. Table tennis and normal tennis courts.Solarium(with a fixed age limit)and a gym. The amenities are very good standard for an english hotel, and combined with the amount of walikng you'
ll do you'll have buns of steel by the time you finish your holiday. The hotel was very nice but a little on the mature side.If your in St Ives for the views and cultural art centres then you'll love it. But if you want a roaring nitelife and chips then i'd give it a miss. One things for sure, your parents will love it!
