Advantages: Clean/Reasonable prices if you can be flexible with travel dates

Disadvantages: Not a nice location/Waited too long for breakfast/Noise that woke me up.

I have been staying at Premier Inns for years. I used to stay at Travelodge's but much prefer The Premier Inn. They are about a 3 star rating and there has never been a problem with cleanliness.

Myself and my children went down to Somerset a few days ago to visit relatives. On this occasion we had to use public transport which in the case of local buses in the areas we visited ...is dreadful. We got to Bridgwater at about 7.30pm...missed the last bus which would have took us to our hotel (it was a Sunday); so decided to walk which was about a mile and a half. By the time we got there I was tired but starving hungry. Personally I do not like the Bridgwater area at all, its sort of grimy and industrial; but it was a useful stop gap. There are some building works going on around the hotel; a petrol station being built. However this was not a problem. We booked in and were told the breakfast times which were good (7.00am to 10.30am). I don't like eating breakfast early and my daughter doesn't wake up early! So this was good for us. One good thing also is that children up to the age of 16 get breakfast free provided one adult is paying (Breakfast is about £7.50). We were also reminded about Premier Inns good nights sleep policy. They basically guarantee you a good nights sleep and if you do not get a good nights sleep say they will refund your money. I have never heard of any other hotel that offers something like this and to be honest I am surprised that they do. We were only staying at this Premier Inn for one night and the next two nights were at Premier Inn in Lympsham.

Our room was located on the ground floor (something I would request to be changed in the future). The room was clean, a reasonable size and there were 2 beds for the children and a large bed for me. I am not sure how they make up the two single beds, but I think they are created from a sofa. Unfortunately this results in one of the beds being uncomfortable so my children argue about who is going to get the comfortable bed!! The television was small and was an old one; however, it worked. I think it would be good if they got new TV's in the rooms. They also had a fan in the room with a note stating that due to the warm weather this is what they were providing for customers. My son insisted we had the fan on as he gets hot; the room was warm actually so the fan came in handy. There are Tea and Coffee making facilities and on this occasion there was plenty of Tea bags, Coffee sachets etc. However, if there is not enough all you need to do is go to Reception and they will give you more. There were also spare pillows which is good as I like two pillows and plenty of towels.

As we were all hungry I decided that we should eat in the restaurant; The restaurant was clean with a pleasant atmosphere and comfortable seating. It looked new actually. Also there was a good play area for children; like a sort of fun house which is rare to get nowadays for free!

We all enjoyed our meal and then returned back to our room. We were tired and the kids slept well! However, I didn't sleep well. I was woken at about 3am by a car outside (I found out late that this was a hotel guest leaving); then I could hear loud footsteps up above our room; In the end I did not get back to sleep until about 5.am so was really tired when I woke up a few hours later at about 8am. I reported this to Reception and questioned about a refund as I did not get a good nights sleep. I certainly wouldn't try to take advantage of this great guarantee but the truth of the matter was that I didn't get a good nights sleep. At first the Receptionist looked as though she thought I was lying, which annoyed me; however then one of her colleagues told her that a guest had left in the middle of the night; this combined with the noise up above me meant I didn't sleep well. She said I would get a refund for the night; this was £49.

That morning we had breakfast. On this occasion I was not very impressed. There were not many staff around and in the end we waited more than 30 minutes for our breakfast. You can basically have whatever you like; Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Beans, Continental Breakfast, Cakes, toast, Cereals, Fruit, Tea, Coffee and Fruit juices. The Breakfast itself when it arrived was ok, but the Bacon was a bit burnt and the Fried Egg slightly underdone. However, it was the waiting time that was annoying and all in all Premier Inn do a good breakfast with good choices. You can also ask for scrambled Egg if you prefer or boiled Eggs or even poached eggs.

My children were thirsty for a fizzy drink so after Breakfast I went to the drinks machine; unfortunately it was broken which didn't impress the kids and it swallowed a £1.00 of mine. However, that was just one of those things and not a major problem.

All in all, this Premier Inn was a clean hotel and the prices can be reasonable if you can be flexible with dates of travelling. I certainly cant recommend the location; but it was use for my our purposes as a stop gap and the hotel was quite full actually I suspect with guests staying for the same reasons as we did. I would recommend asking for a room on the first floor however due to noise I heard from up above.

I think this Premier Inn deserves 4 Dooyoo stars due to cleanliness, good policies and free breakfast for kids if an adult pays. I've knocked off one star due to the dealy in Breakfast, the noise that woke me up and the grimy location!

Summary: A clean hotel but best to request staying on the first floor due to possibility of noise from guests
