Advantages: A company that cares
Disadvantages: The Ritz it isn't- but then it's not £600 a night either!!!
Until last month I had never stayed in a Premier Inn before. It was the first time in this country where I needed a stopover hotel. We were on the way back from Ireland and, whilst in the past I have always done the journey from Dundalk to London in one day- I had reached the opinion on the last trip that I never wanted to do that again- so stopover needed.
Now, because it was just a bed for the night -we would be arriving in time for dinner and leaving early- a good basic hotel was all we needed.
So we booked into the Premier in LLandudno for £59 for the night.
Check-in was easy and the receptionist and other staff could not have been nicer.
Then to the room- we walked in to discover that the twin room we had booked was a double bed and a camp bed- we returned post haste to reception to point out the error- only to be advised they had no twin rooms.
I pointed out that, they should not have accepted the booking- but no complaint was going to magically produce the room we wanted.
We decided to accept it feeling we had no choice- but we were not happy with the sleeping arrangements. The rest of the room was fine a tv, a desk and chair and most importantly tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was typical ensuite and the whole room was very clean.
We then had a meal in the pub/restaurant attached to the hotel- which was very acceptable- not Michelin standard, but more pub grub, but we both enjoyed it and the whole bill came to under £20.
Retiring for drinks in the bar afterwards we paid for our meal and learned that we could claim nectar points for both our meal and our stay.
We sat in the bar for while which was uncrowded, but then decided to retire for the night. I got the double bed, which was very comfortable.
As soon as I got home I e mailed Premier Inn's Head Office and complained about the bed situation. I got an e mail back the following day saying they would investigate my complaint with the hotel and get back to me.
Just over a week later, I got a letter direct from the hotel - it was a lovely letter and apologised for, and acknowledged my complaint.
The letter went onto to advise that it was the company's aim that everyone had a goodnight's sleep and that they had credited the full value of the room back to credit card.
If it hadn't been for the bed problem, we would have been more than satisified and now thanks to their response we wil definitely book with them again.
I, of course can only speak for LLandudno, but until I am proved wrong I will assume they are all of the same standard and be happy to stay in Premier Inns again.
Summary: Well worth the price- but don't forget your nectar card

- 29/07/09 I have stayed with Premier Inn quite often, though I prefer Holiday Inn Express.
I once had a similar problem to yours at a Premier Inn and like you I complained and got a full refund, no problem :) |
