Advantages: Decent quality budget hotels
Disadvantages: Breakfast is extra
This review concerns the two Premier Inns that I have stayed at - Premier Inn Macclesfield North and Premier Inn Peterborough A1 (M) Junction 16.
The first time that I stayed at a Premier Inn was in Summer 2008, when we were visiting Macclesfield, with a view to moving to the area from Sussex, to be closer to my family in the Peak District. The Premier Inn Macclesfield North is situated at Tytherington Business Park, on Springwood Way, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK10 2XA. As it is on a Business Park, and on the edge of town, there is plenty of free parking available.
We paid £58.00 per night for four nights in a double room, with a cot for our daughter. This did not include breakfast, which was available in the adjoining restaurant (The Springwood Park) at £7.50 for a full Premier Breakfast, including vegetarian options, as well as cereal, fruit, yogurt, toast, and coffee, or a Continental Breakfast for £5.25 (cereals, pastries, croissants, toast, tea and coffee). There is also the option of Grab and Go for £2.95, which is a croissant and tea or coffee. Also, up to two children can eat for free when with an adult who is purchasing a Premier Breakfast. I have tried both the Premier Breakfast and the Continental, and found them to be plentiful, tasty and well cooked.
The second Premier Inn we stayed in was just off the A1(M) Junction 16 at Norman Cross, near Peterborough. We stayed there for two nights in June this year, as we were attending a wedding in nearby Stilton. It cost around £57.00 per night for a double room plus cot.
This hotel was very conveniently situated, just off the motorway, and had plenty of free parking again.
The rooms at both hotels were very clean and decorated in a contemporary style, which seems to be the same at all Premier Inns accross the country. The rooms have a kettle and tea and coffee making facilities, but no mini bar, which I would have found useful to store a bottle of milk for my daughter in. The bathrooms were basic, but very clean, and shower gel and liquid soap were provided.
We found the staff at both hotels to be very friendly and helpful. For a budget chain of hotels, Premier Inn is very good quality at an affordable price, though I have noticed that the cheaper rooms tend to be in more out of the way hotels, eg. those on motorways. I recently looked for hotels in Brighton, and found that the Premier Inn in the city centre cost £87.00 per night, suggesting that the prices are raised for expensive areas.
Summary: Good standard for a budget hotel
