Advantages: Great food, great service, great staff, fantastic rooms
Disadvantages: Expensive
Vickitoria10 and I got married at the beginning of June. Sticking with tradition we had the reception in Vicki's part of the world, which unfortunately for us happens to be the industrial town of Scunthorpe (I however, come from the much more cosmopolitan city of Sheffield).
Decent wedding reception venues in Scunthorpe are few and far between and so with little other real competition Vicki and I decided on Forest Pines Golf & Country Club which is just off the M180 and is owned and run by Q Hotels.
Forest Pines is a very posh, very modern hotel which also includes a restaurant, relaxing bar area, conference rooms, golf course, swimming pool, gym and 188 bedrooms. It's certainly the poshest hotel we've ever stayed in and the whole place just oozes class.
The rooms at Forest Pines are truly exceptional. I stayed at the hotel the night before the wedding and so got to sample one of the hotel's standard rooms. The room I had was spacious and absolutely immaculate. The bathroom was modern and the whole room just had that "wow factor" about it. The bed was massive, incredibly comfy and made for a great night's sleep... or it would have done if I hadn't been so nervous about getting married in the morning! The room also had a large flatscreen TV as well a table and 2 chairs.
For the night of our wedding, we had booked ourselves into one of the hotel's fantastic suites (hey, it was our wedding night). The suite we'd chosen had a massive 4-poster bed and an even bigger bathroom that came complete with a double bath! The bath was a great place for us both to relax after the hectic day we'd had!
We ate in the restaurant the night before the wedding and were quite impressed with the food. I'm a fussy eater, but a home-made burger and chips was no problem for the Forest Pines team. It was an expensive meal (at around £20 each), but the food was fantastic.
The bar area next to the restaurant is a great place to relax, although the drinks are pretty expensive at more than £3 a pint.
Our wedding reception was held in the Forest Pines suite which has been recently renovated and looks fantastic. The room was decorated exactly how the Mrs wanted it, with the table centrepieces and placecards looking great. The wedding breakfast was served quickly and efficiently and the food we ate (turkey) was absolutely spot-on.
I really can't recommend Forest Pines enough. Sure, it's expensive but the wife and I felt like royalty throughout our special day and we really had the time of our lives at Forest Pines.
Summary: We had the perfect wedding day at Forest Pines
