Myself and my wife recently stayed at the Limavady Roe Vally Resort when attending the wedding of two friends. It was our first time staying at the hotel. We had heard a lot of good reports about how lovely the hotel was. I tend to agree that the hotel was nice, but I felt a little (and I do mean only a little) bit disappointed. I think people had bigged it up so much that I was expecting oppulence, and although the hotel is well finished, it is not oppulent!

Anyway, small rant over, I'll talk you through it. The entrance to the hotel from the road is impressive, as there is a long sweeping driveway through the grounds to the hotel proper. Very impressive and scenic. We parked our car and (me carrying about ten bags!) went into reception. This was slightly odd, as you have to walk past the golf pro shop to get into the hotel this way from the car park. No biggie, but just glad the bride did not have to pass this way.

Checked in (which was hassle free and easy) and went up to our room. The room was fine, although disappointingly there was no fridge. Two big double beds, which were comfortable enough. I kind of expected the room to be really plush (for those of you that know it, the Galgrom rooms are very nice), but they were juyst fine, nothing special. The bathroom was quite small. There was an ice machine in the hallway, but it was miles away from our room which was annoying.

The hotel itself is good, well decorated and kept in good repair. We went to the bar for a drink before the meal and there was a good buzz and atmosphere in the bar from the wedding party. Friendly bar staff and plenty of them so no waiting around.

The room that the meal was in was large and bright and although there were over 200 people at the wedding it did not feel cramped. There was plenty of space between tables. One small criticism was that the bar for the room was outside and very small and only had one person on it, so it was quite slow.

Now there is a spa at the hotel, but we did not try it, as we were there for a wedding.

Overall the hotel was good and after another seamless check out experience we were on our way. Now we had the wedding rate of £150 which seems dear, but it is a nice hotel and it was for a wedding, so could hardly say no to staying there! My advice is if you want a nice peaceful weekend, it is worth checking this place out.

Summary: Decent hotel, not amazing, but definitely worth 4 stars
