Advantages: Food, location, friendly staff, gardens, price
Disadvantages: Rooms in another building seperate to hotel not great
My husband and I first stayed in this hotel 2 years ago when my brother & his wife held their wedding there. It's a 1930's style Tudor style building surrounded by gardens and set in the Surrey countryside. It's a very pleasant hotel with an excellent restaurant.
LOCATION
Guildford Road, East Horsley, Surrey, KT24 6TB
It's accessed easily from the M25 and 1 mile from Horsley train station. It's just 6 miles from all the shops, bars and restaurants in Guildford and Leatherhead and 20 miles from Heathrow airport.
Chessington World of Adventures, Thorpe Park and Legoland are nearby as well as Effington Golf Club.
Directly outside the hotel are a petrol station with small convenience store and a tiny little pub which was ok for a drink - however the food wasn't great!
ACCOMODATION
The hotel has 87 rooms, many retaining original features of the house. We stayed in a standard room which was clean and basic. There was a flat-screen TV, broadband internet access (costs extra), ensuite bathroom with power shower, hairdryer, complimentary toiletries, complimentary hot drinks and biscuits, trouser press and desk. It had a double bed which was relatively comfortable. The pillows weren't great but they were fine for 1 night.
The hotel also has executive rooms and interconnecting rooms for families and a suite.
All rooms are non smoking and in my opinion would be suitable for disabled guests. There is lift access from the car park, reception, bar and restaurant are all on the ground floor. There are rooms available on the ground floor and the communal areas are spacious.
The hotel offers room service and check in is at 14.00. Check out is at midday.
FOOD & DRINK
Thatchers is the hotel restaurant, tastefully decorated featuring oak beams and a fireplace. They serve a wide variety of starters, main meals and desserts starting from £5 for a starter, £12 for a main course and £5 for a dessert. They also offer a selection of wines to go with your meal.
I found the food very good, the staff were polite and attentive but from what I can recall the room was very cold and the 'background' music a bit too loud! Both of these things are of course minor & easily rectified.
Dinner is served from 7pm to 10pm. Breakfast is served from 7am-9.30am on weekdays, 8am- later at weekends.
The club bar is attached to the restaurant & offers a range of beers, wines, spirits, soft drinks and light meals. It's pleasantly decorated with chandeliers and has live piano music every Sunday. It also had a flat screen TV by the bar.
WOULD I RECOMMEND?
Yes I would. We have gone back and stayed there since - however this was a last minute deal, and this time we had a room in a separate block to the main hotel and it wasn't very nice. I'd recommend that if you book here, you ask for a room in the main building.
Also, upgrade to an executive room for an earlier check-in, and leather recliner & unlimited movies!
And take a jumper or shawl into the restaurant!
PRICE
I don't remember the exact amount we paid - although it was reasonable. We got a deal which included dinner. The Ramada Jarvis website gives up to date information and prices.
Summary: All in all a good hotel for the money
