Ramada Hotel (Peterborough)
Advantages: Fab rooms, staff and food!
I needed to book a hotel in Peterborough as I was going to a doll show, and the hotel that the show was being held was fully booked, so I did a search for local hotels around that postcode. I found the Ramada which was about 1 mile away from the original hotel so I decided to give it a go.
** The Hotel **
The hotel, on first impression, looked actually quite secluded, just off a busy road, in amongst quite a lot of trees. The building itself was clean and well presented and looked quite inviting. We found the reception very easily and checked in with no real problems. The staff were very friendly and helpful, which is always a bonus.
Amenities in the hotel include:
Bar & Lounge
Breakfast/Continental/Full English and Childrens
FreeView Digital TV
Children and families welcome
Conference / Meeting Facilities, Fax, Photocopy Machine Available
All Rooms Are Non-Smoking
Safe Deposit Box At Reception
SECURITY- Security Door Locks And Spy Holes In All Rooms
Studio Rooms with Work Desk
Wifi Internet Access in Public Areas
Express Check Out
Handicap Facilities Wheelchair Accessibility
Laundry Service Available
** The Room **
I chose a twin room for myself and my sister to share. We werent really expecting too much, especially as the rate for the room was £42.50 whcih was over half the price of the hotel 1 mile away were were going to stay at originally. This price is a special one that is called "pre-pay and save" which lets you book in advance and pay straight away.
The room actually exceeded my expectations. It was fairly roomy for a basic room and was well decorated and very clean without being too clinical. The beds were slightly larger than a single bed, which suited us just fine.
All Rooms have complimentary WiFi Internet Access, Clock/Radio In TV, Tea/Coffee Making Facilities, Hairdryer, Iron/Ironing Board, Flat Screen TV.
There were lots of places to plug in laptops, mobile chargers or straighteners etc. and the shower was brilliant!
There are many different other types of rooms available including executive rooms whcih I think will be a bit more expensive, but to be honest the basic room was more than adequate.
There's also the executive suite which has like a sofa and better toiletries then the other rooms.
** FOOD **
The hotel has a restuarant and so we decided to venture downstairs and see what they serve. I know I probably sound like Im extremely tight but they had a special offer of two meals for just under £10. The meals included fish and chips, steak and chips and some other hearty meals. We decided to opt for the 6oz steak and chips, which I have to say was one of the best steak meals I have had... ever!!! (and no, not just because of the price!). The meal came quite quickly, but we were looked after by the staff very well.
We decided to have an afters, my sister opting for apple crumble which was absolutely massive and declicous.
We also decided, after the success of dinner, to add breakfast to our room. We were told it would cost £5 each if we did it that night, or £12.50 each in the morning, so that is a good tip!
We came down very early and had a lovely breakfast which was more of a help yourself route, but was lovely all the same. Where we sat in the resturant overlooked a lake with some ducks and swans, whcih really made me feel relaxed and not like I was 2 mins from a motorway!
** Local Attractions **
International Rowing Course - 0.5 Miles West
Ferry Meadow Park - 1 Mile South
Thorpe Wood Golf Club - 1 Mile West
Key Theatre - 2 Miles East
Peterborough Cathedral - 2 Miles East
Esporta Health And Leisure Club - 3 Miles
As you can see the Ramada Peterborough is quite close to many places of interest (unfortunately we didnt get to go to any of them) and as far as I am aware there is easy access to it via motorways (its about 2 mins drive from a motorway turn off).
** My Summary **
I have stayed at a few hotels and I have to say I was very impressed with the Ramada Peterborough. The staff were friendly and happy to help, without being too overbearing, which can ruin things.
The rooms were brilliant, very comfortable and clean. The only minor problem I had when I stayed was that our room was directly over a main function room, and the night that we stayed there was a birthday party. They were playing loud music until gone 12am, and unfortunately we had to be awake very early, so that put a bit of a downer on it for us, but we knew it wasnt the hotels fault, and next I would just ask to be away from any functions if possible.
The price of the room was fantastic, and the price of the food was also brilliant.
I completly enjoyed my stay here, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that needs to stay here.
Summary: 5 Stars!
