      Very helpful

A small hotel in the north west Highalnds of Scotland

This is a small family run hotel that enjoys a fantastic location overlooking Loch Inchard. There is a public bar and also another bar for residents only. Bar meals and snacks are served in the public bar.

I stayed here in 1998 and again in 2001 each time just for a single night on a bed and breakfast basic. I recall that the room was small but comfortable on each occasion but what I remember more vividly was a good breakfast in the dining room with fantastic views and I also remember the amazing view from my room.

More recently I visited here again in August 2008 but this time only as a non resident. It appears that the place hasn't changed at all although I am not sure that the owners are the same. The views from this hotel are simply stunning with a view of Loch Inchard in front and the peaks of Foinhaven, Ben Arkle and Ben Hope behind.

On my most recent visit I visited the public bar and also enjoyed a bar meal. I had a meat and potato pie that tasted like it was home cooked and came with baby new potatoes, carrots and peas. I think it was around £8 which is an average price considering the remote location of the place.

The hotel is located at the junction of where the A838 and B801 meet. The B801 is a minor road that goes to Kinlochbervie where you will find some of the finest sandy beaches in Britain. Don't be fooled by the A838 however as whilst this might look like a major road on the map it is a single track road with passing places.

Rhiconich itself has nothing to offer the tourist apart from the breathtaking views and wildlife. Other than the hotel there are around a dozen houses, one of which offers B&B during the Summer and that's about it. The hotel also doubles up as a filling station with two pumps and must be one of the last remaining filling stations in Britain that isn't self service and where credit cards are not accepted, also don't expect to find it open on a Sunday or after 5pm on any other day.
