Romanos Hotel (London)
**** Romanos Hotel****
I have stayed in a lot of hotels in the past year and i think that this is one of the worst.
The address is
31 Charlwood Street
It isn't very far from Pimlico station (on the Victoria line) ,about a 5 minute walk. The only thing is, it is on quite a small street so watch you don't accidentally go past it.
**Reception/staff in general**
When we first arrived and tried to book in we got asked to "go for a walk or something" as the member of staff was on his break. They said they would take care of our luggage and come back in an hour, when we got back they had left our luggage in the hallway where anyone could have taken it.The reception area itself was very dingy and looked horrible. We decided to pay by cash as they charge extra if you want to pay by card.We got the feeling the staff member actually wanted us to pay by card(extra money for them?).When we paid we had a slight problem as our notes were Scottish but there is a cash machine nearby so that problem was quickly sorted.
I don't usually say much about staff in these things because they are fine but i am making an exception in this case, because they are so rude .When we asked for tea bags for our kettle as they had only given us one between 2 for 3 days and they said-(after we got them to stop watching Eastenders which we could see them doing) "but that's all the way down stairs i don't like having to go down there".There was more said but i am sure you get the message.
Like all hotels this one had different types of rooms. Some with en suites-some shared bathroom. The en suites were on the 2nd and 3rd floor where the bathroom was and our room was in the basement. The toilet handle was broken and the lock on the bathroom door wasn't working either. For our room we had to go down a flight of narrow stairs which wouldn't have been so bad but it was a dreadful room. When we opened the door the corner of it stayed stuck to the wall the room was a weird shape and had a point in the middle so the two twin beds stuck out at an angle. there was also a sink in the room but no plug so we couldn't put water in it.Also on the official web site for the hotel it doesn't mention anything about our room, all doors we went past had proper numbers on them whereas ours had the number stuck on with a piece of paper.
This is near Victoria Station and other places such as The Tate Gallery.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel to wheelchair users due to the narrow stairs in the building.
I think this was about £20 each a night(so £40) .I know i shouldn't complain but the website and photos make the hotel look completely different from the way it does now, perhaps this is the photos of how it looked when it first opened?..either that or it has been altered with Photoshop. Also budget shouldn't make the staff so rude, don't they want people to come back or recommended them?
Overall i would say give this a miss...There is a nice Easyjet hotel along the street or plenty of others for that matter.
