Advantages: Centrally located and beautiful inside

Disadvantages: Very expensive cooked breakfasts!

We recently managed to get a great deal on the Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa in Edinburgh and stayed there for 2 nights.
The hotel is huge and is really centrally located so that you can walk to everything you want to see in the city very easily. From the front of the hotel you can see the Castle and the Old Town, and a simple left turn will bring you straight onto Princes Street (Edinburgh's main shopping street) where you will find all the main high street stores including Edinburgh's famous Jenners store. Opposite the hotel there is a beautiful park in a valley beneath the castle, and is really lovely to walk through on your way to and from the hotel. To head up to the castle and the Royal mile you are looking at a 10 minute walk so again the hotel is really conveniently located.
The hotel itself is very grand and beautifully furnished and appointed. There is lots of space round the reception/entrance lobby for relaxing and reading, and there are several restaurants available including a highly recommended Italian restaurant. The hotel also has a Spa offering lots of different treatments, and there is both an indoor and outdoor heated pool for relaxing.
The rooms are very comfortable and spacious, offering all the amenities you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The beds are very comfortable and the hotel is quite quiet.
The one thing I didn't like too much is that the breakfasts are very expensive at £17.00 per head for a full breakfast! We found this too expensive and decided to venture onto Princes Street where we were able to get a lovely cooked breakfast from the Debenhams Cafe (which is on the top floor and offers a fantastic view of the castle and Royal Mile) for £3.95 per person!

Summary: A great place to stay for a visit to Edinburgh!
