Advantages: Location (attached to the terminal and proximity to monorail between terminals)
Disadvantages: Can't really think of any - as with any hotel price of food/drinks
We normally stay in a Travelodge so I was always going to be impressed
by a higher class hotel, but I do think that this one genuinely ticks
all the right boxes. We treated ourselves before we went on Honeymoon as
we wanted something better than a Travelodge and we were not
disappointed.
We arrived at Gatwick on the Gatwick Express which arrives into the
South Terminal and got on the monorail to the North Terminal, we could
see the hotel as we were coming round on the monorail - it is shaped
like a cube with windows on all sides and also facing into the middle of
the hotel which has a large atrium.
The hotel is accessed by a walkway from the main terminal building so
extremely handy if you don't have a car - which was one of our main
reasons for booking it. Check in was swift and very professional and the
whole reception area very impressive. We went straight up to our room
and discovered we had been given a room that was overlooking the airport
and the runway and had one of the biggest windows you've ever seen in a
hotel room! It was massive!
The room itself was spotlessly clean and the free toiletries plentiful.
A wake up call could be set up really easily on the phone and easy table
and chair situated nicely next to the window, although the window sill
was so large you could actually sit on it!
We went and did Virgin Atlantic's Twilight Check in - excellent facility
- and had tea at Frankie and Benny's in the South terminal before making
our way back to the room, which I was keen to do so we could see the
planes! After a game of 'spot the airline' we decided to make our way to
bed as we had to be up early in the morning.
The bed was very comfortable and the hotel very quiet - which was good
considering it's location and the amount of comings and goings there
must have been was very good. We also had an adjoining door in our room
which I was slightly wirried about as I know other hotels often have
problems with noise where adjoining doors are used, however I needn't
have worried, it was all very quiet.
Our wake up call worked fine and we got ourselves ready and made our way
to check out, again this was all very quick and we made our way to
departures.
Fantastic hotel if you want to splurge the night before your flight! I
would definitely recommend!
Summary: Excellent stopover, we were lucky and could even see the planes!
