The Nook B+B (Weymouth)
Advantages: Location, overlooking the beach. Decor and ambiance. Friendly staff. Cocktails!
Disadvantages: Small bar so could get crowded quickly. Bit pricey. Portion sizes.
My daughter and I stayed overnight in Weymouth August 2011, and were looking for somewhere reasonable to have a pre-dinner drink; we came across The Nook which is on the Esplanade directly opposite the beach. It has been recently refurbished, has a modern london style interior and we felt comfortable about going in.
We arrived at 7pm so it was very quiet but the barman was friendly and made a 50 year old with her 18 year old daughter feel welcome. Their cocktail menu was extensive and after choosing the Cosmo and the Diaquari we settled down at a window table. More customers started to arrive and there was a relaxed feel to the place; we enjoyed our drinks so much we ordered a Long Island Iced Tea and a Lemon Drop, and decided to eat our meal there instead of moving on.
The menu wasn't too large, but it was still difficult to choose what to go for as all of the dishes appealed. We had stuffed mushrooms and pork belly pate to start, followed by pan fried salmon with potatoes and salad, and braised pork. The food was simple, well cooked and we both were pleased with our choices. My only negative comment was that the portion size of the starters was too small; only one stuffed mushroom on a plate with a salad garnish is not enough in my opinion. The main meals were more generous however. We were looking forward to the Monday evening fireworks which take place in the bay at 9.30pm through August; the bar staff told us we were in the perfect spot to watch the fireworks so we ordered two more cocktails ( Dreamberry cream and Apples and Pears) and stayed at our window table, watching the crowds gather, and had a fabulous view of the fireworks. It was such a lovely evening spending some quality time with my daughter and we're so pleased we discovered The Nook. When we found out it was also a Hotel we wished we were staying there instead of at a B&B elsewhere in the town. We would definitely recommend The Nook and hope to return there some day.
Price wise expect to pay around £18-£20 a head for a starter and main; cocktails £4.95 each but well worth it!
Summary: For a fab evening out in Weymouth I would higly recommend The Nook.
