Advantages: All rooms en suite. Quiet unspoilt location
Disadvantages: None
This is my favourite hotel in Devon (if not in the UK). I often stay here when I go on business trips and also when I go down on short breaks to Exeter with my husband.
It is a small hotel located in Huxham just outside Exeter. It is part 16th Century with modern parts added on. The bar and resturant and some rooms are located in the 16th Century part. It is right out in the middle of quite countryside with the village of Stoke Cannon about a mile and a half away. The rooms are beautifully and comfortable furnished with flat screen tvs with an array of terrestial and sky channels. All rooms are ensuite and all have mini bars.
The hotel is run by Brian. The restaurant is fantastic and offers an excellent standard comparable with resturants that are normally found at much larger expensive hotels. They use fresh local produce and have specials that change daily. The restaurant is used by the locals and at weekends is usually fully booked. The breakfasts are wonderful, again using fresh local produce and freshly cooked to order and served by Bernadette who is lovely.
This hotel has a charming romantic atmosphere if you are looking for a break away for two and it is the favourite retreat of myself and my husband. I often dream of the peace and quiet that can be found here.
Summary: A beautiful place to stay and enjoy a romantic getaway.
