Advantages: Beautiful old building & lovely food
Disadvantages: None
This is a very old 17th century building which has been modernised and extended to the back. We only had afternoon tea here so can only rate it on those merits really - unfair to do otherwise!
We loved the old building and the decor was in keeping with the building and made it feel very grand. Lots of low lighting and comfy corners, seating was extremely comfortable.
We were served straight away by very friendly staff. We had an afternoon champagne tea which consisted of a glass of champagne, a three tierd stand with sandwhiches on the top (they took an order for those), scone, jam and cream in the middle and cakes on the bottom. Also included was tea or coffee & biscuits.
The sandwiches were delicious and full of filling, there was one scone each on the middle layer and a few small slices of cake on the bottom layer - I perhaps would've liked to have chosen the cakes or at least had a slightly larger slice!
It was a nice afternoon out, the toilets were clean, we were able to park at the back of the hotel and even though it's a pay and display the charge is waivered if buying food.
It is quite hard to find the place, in fact the Sat Nav takes you to the street but it was only by chance I happened to notice the entrance to it tucked away, you have to drive through a kind of cars width alley way and the back of the hotel doesn't look much but if you park and walk round the shops and enter from the front it looks much nicer (like the picture!)
Their website says rooms are from £65 (internet rates) and the bedrooms look beautiful on the website.
4 out of 5 stars.
Summary: A great place to eat and visit
