If you are off to the cotswolds and need a hotel to stay in it is worth looking at The Bull Hotel in Fairford.
You cannot miss it! It is situated at the side of Fairford market square.
The hotel is over 500 years old with the first record of it being used as a hotel is in the Torrington Diaries where John Byng a judge visited the Bull and awarded it the distinction of being "Good".
Years ago it used to be a coaching inn.
A couple of years ago when the Bull was getting improvements done to it they found a secret tunnel that led from the hotel to our local Church.
When you enter the Hotel you will see locals and visitors drinking together and having a chat which makes it a friendly hotel. But if you are a visitor and staying there you also have your own area for drinks.
There is a complete range of Arkells beers (them being local ie Swindon) from Real Ale to modern lager beer. Arkells also so a large selection of fine wines for the Bull.
There is a very pleasant atmosphere here and not a place where all the locals go quiet if a "stranger" walks in.
The walls are covered with some very interesting photographs as the owners called Dudley are related to Duggie Brown the commediane and the actress that played Ivy Tilsley (Gails Mother in law) in Coronation street.
The Hotel has 22 bedrooms. These must be seen. As they are olde worlde with sloping roofs and of course oak beams. The prices are Single room £55.50, Double or Twin £89.50, family suite for 4 people £99.50. Then you have the Four Poster George Suite for £99.50 and honeymoon special for £109.50.
Food is all home cooked and at very reasonable prices with Sunday lunch varying between £7.95 and £10.95 (4 course).
Children are very welcome here.
The Bull also has its own part of the River Coln for fishing - trout. You pay £33 for a full day, £20 for half a day if you are residents and even if you are just visiting and not staying the night at the Bull you can have a full day non resident for £38 and £25 for half a day.
I am sure you will catch trout as any part of the river here you see trout swimming as they have escaped from Bibury Trout Farm. Dont forget though that tickling trout, and it would be so easy, is against the law!!
If you are a resident the Bull will do you a picnic basket.
If you are coming to Fairford for the Air tattoo it might be worth doing a little detour and popping in for a drink here and a relax before your journey home.
The Bull is said to be haunted and so you never know you might have a visitor yourselves.
Hope this has been of help and thank you for reading x
