The Inversnaid Hotel is situated in Scotland on the edge of Loch Lomand, it certainly is a hotel with a view, and a stunning one at that!
Inversnaid is a tiny hamlet in the Loch Lomand and Trossachs National Park. It is a very beautiful area of Scotland with stunning views, surronded by mountains. There is only one road in and out and most of that is virtually single track, a bit of a pain if you are driving a large vehicle but it is such a scenic drive that really this doesn't matter, although finding a bus coming towards you was a little scary at the time!!!!!!!
Inversnaid Hotel is a large building that originates from the 1820's. Over the years it has been considerably extended, however you can still easily spot the original features, the building is painted white today but in older photographs it was lovely old brick. The hotel is tucked away in a forest with the Inversnaid Falls (waterfall) tumbling down beside it. In the evenings we watched the feral mountain goats come down from the forest and graze on the grass around the hotel. They are beautiful creatures usually tucked away in the forest so I was pleased to see them so close up.
There is a little harbour with two private boats that run for the guests, these are like a taxi service to the other side of the loch where some of the guests leave their cars each night to avoid the drive to and from the hotel along the single track road. Personally we never did this, for us the drive was too beautiful to avoid and all part of the experience.
The hotel has 114 rooms, all with its own en suite. I can only comment on our room which was comfortable clean, and very nicely furnished. The view from our window overlooked Loch Lomand with Ben Lomand the other side where we saw some fantastic sunsets most nights. The bathroom was first class! The shower, loo and basin were pristine, I could not fault it at all it was perfect as was the rest of our room, there was not a thing out of place.
The hotel has three dining rooms, a bar, conference room, and two lounges. All of these were very comfortable, not too formal and easy to feel relaxed in with large comfy sofas and huge old fireplaces. Usually on holiday after dinner I tend not to use the lounge facilities and go straight back to my room, however the lounges here were so comfortable and relaxing I think we spent a bit of time in there each night.
The meals were wonderful! Being a vegetarian I sometimes find eating out limited. But the chef at Inversnaid catered for us veggies with the same choice as non veggies, there was enough choice for me to have something different each day, normally you find most menus only have a couple of veggie dishes, fact the veggie dishes were so lovely my fiancé had them a couple of times when we were there! Something unheard of usually. All the meals were served efficiently and all the food was plentiful and hot.
The staff at Inversnaid were friendly, attentive and went out of their way to do anything they could for us. Having said that they weren't over the top, and certainly didn't over crowd you.
Our stay at Inversnaid was first class, I can't recommend this hotel enough, it has so much going for it and it set is one of the most beautiful, romantic locations in Scotland.
Summary: Recommended if you are staying in the area
