      Very helpful

Would've been alright without the bugs!

Me and my partner stayed at The Neo a few weeks ago. The Neo is a small 'boutiquey' hotel with a total of 9 rooms which have all been personally decorated by the owner.

The Neo is in a fairly good location. Although it is not incredibly close to Brighton Pier (the main/most famous Palace one), it is about a 15-20 minute walk away. The Neo is however much closer to the shopping area of Brighton and more specifically an area called the 'The Lanes'. It took us about 5 minutes to get to the centre of town by foot and was really quite a pleasant walk. Also the hotel is around a 10 minute walk away from the seafront and is closest to the West Pier.

This was probably the best thing about our stay at The Neo. All of the staff that we came across during our stay were very pleasant, well-mannered and made us feel welcome. The hotel is privately owned and I think most members of staff are friends with one another.

When we needed to check in, we had to call one of the staff to let us in as there is no-one at reception after 8pm. The lady that came and met us outside the hotel was ever so cheerful even though it was 10pm and she had left her own home in her pyjamas to come and get us settled in! She was bubbly, welcoming and advised us on where would be the best place to park our car. She told us to keep hold of her mobile number during our 2-night stay so that we could call in the event of any problems. The waitresses looking after us during breakfast were also fab and the food was absolutely delicious! On both mornings I had leek and cheese vegetarian sausages with roasted tomatoes, brown toasted bread and a fresh banana and raspberry yoghurt. Yes it did taste as good as it sounds!!

      The Room:

The room was beautifully decorated but a little on the small side. I was kind of expecting a modestly sized room anyway as the hotel is pretty much in the centre of town and Brighton is quite a busy city. However I didn't think it would be this small! There was barely enough space to walk around the double bed! The décor partly made up for this though as our room was gorgeous - the walls were covered in an oriental style red and gold wallpaper and the bed had a number of luxuriously covered pillows and cushions which made it look very inviting.

The bathroom was gorgeous too. It was tiled with black mosaic tiles and contained a white ceramic toilet, bathtub and basin. Considering the size of the bedroom, the en-suite bathroom was actually a fairly good size. I personally think they could have used some of the bathroom space to make the bedroom a bit easier to manoeuvre around.

Now one pretty big let down with the room was that I ended up with a couple of bites following our stay at the Neo. I am quite sensitive to beg bugs and wasn't pleased at all about ending up with bites as a result of staying at a hotel that seemed otherwise great. The bites were on my hands and were itchy and made me quite uncomfortable. My partner did not suffer any bites but I think I am much more sensitive than he is. This is probably the reason why I have rated the hotel a 3 rather than a 4 as if I was bitten by bed bugs, it can't be overly well cleaned and the hygiene standards are clearly not worth a 4 star rating.

We got a special rate over the internet and paid around the £100 mark per night for two nights. I think the price is fair if not a little expensive. I personally would say that a fair rate for staying at The Neo would be somewhere between £60-80. I do know that some of the rooms in the hotel can cost up to £160 per night if you stay on a weekend.
