      Very helpful

The best hotel I have ever come across in a beautiful resort

The Ponsmere Hotel is located right on the cliff top in the village of Perranporth.
Perranporth is a small village on the North coast of Cornwall close to Newquay, around 7 miles away I think.

Perranporth itself is only small but I think it has everything you could need.
There are a couple of small supermarkets; a Spar and a Costcutter, a few souvenir shops, a couple of the usual surf shops, a bakers and a butchers. There are various restaurants in the village centre too, An Italian, an Indian and a couple of traditional pubs serving good English food!
Takeaway wise, theres plenty of choice: fish and chips, pizzas, curries, Chinese they're all there on the main road through the village.

All the above are within walking distance from the Ponsmere hotel, the hotel I am about to review.

"The Hotel on the Beach" is not literally on the beach but up on the cliffs above, the beach is easily accessible from the hotel by some stone steps or if you don't want to go down steps then you can walk through the village to the slope down to the beach (about a 5 minute walk).

The beach itself is gorgeous, around 2 miles of golden sands, a favourite with surfers from around the country.
Down by the waters edge (when the tides out) is Chapel Rock, now a natural swimming pool filled by the tides every day.
The rock a long time ago was home to a chapel though I don't quite see how as it's just a big rock on the beach!
Kids love to climb to the top and so do I!

      The History of the Ponsmere
The hotel has been extended a lot over the years; It started off as a hotel with around 25 bedrooms in the 1920s, during the second world war the hotel was used as a base for soldiers and the beach was actually used for practices for the Normandy Landing as the two beaches were very similar.
After the war it went back to being a hotel and was extended to double the original size, later on it was extended again to the size it is today.

      The Bedrooms
The Ponsmere hotel has 72 bedrooms, all ensuite set out over 2 floors. Many of these rooms are family suites with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom.
All the bedrooms have telephones, televisions, radio, a baby listening service, the usual tea and coffee making facilities and there is a lift to all floors.

The bedrooms are all gorgeous, the family suites are at the front of the hotel having balconies with sea views. When you book you can choose which room you want and don't just get put in a 1 bedroom room because you're a couple, whenever me or my mum and dad have stayed we have had one of the family suites despite there being only 2 people staying.

The rooms are a great size with lots of wardrobe space, a dressing table and a couple of chairs by the patio doors out onto the balcony.
The ensuite bathrooms all have a bath with shower over, sink and toilet.

The hotel has a 20m heated indoor swimming pool and an outdoor heated pool too.
Its lovely in the summer to sit outside by the pool eating your lunch from the bar then going for a dip in the Cornish sunshine.
The indoor pool also has a Jacuzzi which works by putting a token (£1 from reception) into the machine, this last about 20 minutes.

There is a recently refurbished gym which is free to use with a sauna attached.

There is a little hairdressers situated in the reception area and you can also have massages and beauty treatments in a room upstairs.

There is also a childrens playground at the front of the hotel on the clifftop overlooking the gorgeous beach.

So everything you could wish for in a hotel really!

You can book your holiday to be dinner, bed and breakfast or just bed and breakfast, I'd really recommend booking DB&B though as the food at the Ponsmere is amazing.
Even if you haven't booked your evening meal before you stay you can pay for it a night at a time if you fancy trying the restaurant one night, I don't know how much the meal on its own is as I have never stayed just B & B but I'm sure its worth however much it costs!

The breakfast is now a help yourself buffet, with a choice of about 10 cereals and 5 fruit juices to start.
After cereal, you can go to the hot buffet and choose as much as you want from: Bacon, sausages, black pudding, mushrooms, sauté potatoes, tomatoes, beans and fried bread.
At your table a waitress/waiter will take your drinks order and bring fresh coffee or tea to your table. The waiting staff also bring racks of toast and top these up as you empty them!
The food is all a lovely quality and breakfast usually fills me up until mid afternoon when its time for a Cornish pasty!

For lunch you can obviously eat out either in the village or wherever your fancy takes you that day.
If the kids want a day by the pool or you're in the vicinity of the hotel I'd definitely recommend visiting the hotel bar for your lunch.
They offer a range of sandwiches, soups, pizzas, main meals and of course Cornish pasties! All are homemade and really tasty! The main meals will set you back around £6 and the snacks are around £3.

The bigger meals would be a good idea if you were only staying bed and breakfast.
If you were also having evening meal you'd be too full! lol.
The hotel bar is open from 12-2.30pm for lunch.

There is also a bar joined onto the hotel 'The Sunset bar' which serves similar food but is also open to the general public as well as hotel guests. This is open all day and through the night too.

      ~Evening Meal~
In the evening you have a 3 course meal.
There are usually a choice of 4 starters including a soup and at least 1 vegetarian option.

You have about 6 main courses to choose from and a childrens option too though your kids can eat the adult meals for no extra cost if they please or eat their evening meal earlier at the 'kids club'.
On the menu, there is always a vegetarian choice and a salad too.
The food again is cooked beautifully by the chefs and the portions are plenty big enough.

For dessert there are about 4 choices on the menu, all equally tempting but if you don't fancy any of them you can always have ice cream or cheese and biscuits.
Then you can have a cup of coffee or tea for afters!

The food is one of the highlights of any holiday for me and here it really is top notch, I really would recommend you stay here for your evening meal and breakfast as the choice and the quality is brilliant!

Breakfast is served 8.30am-10am and Evening meal is 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The entertainment is all in the hotel ballroom, the ballroom is big with a dancefloor in the middle and comfy seating all around.

Kids: For the children there is a morning kids club, from 9.30am til 11am every day and then the evening entertainment 6pm til 8pm while you eat your evening meal.
The kids entertainment is great with clowns, magicians and lots more.

At 8pm after the childrens entertainment has finished, the music starts and then at 9pm there is bingo every night.
After bingo at around 9.30pm the adults entertainment comes on, usually a singing act, illusionist or hypnotist.
This is great quality with really good acts, their shows are usually around 2 hours and then music is played again till 12.30am, not too late as it is a family hotel.

On the last night of school holiday breaks, there is a fancy dress competition for the kids so make sure you take costumes!!

The bar is open all night and is attached to the ballroom area. In the bar itself there are also seats and two pool tables.
The cost of drinks isn't bad for a hotel and the bar also sells crisps and peanuts; the usual bar snacks.

If you don't want to stay in the hotel there are a few pubs in Perranporth centre, the most lively in the village centre being the Green Parrot and also worth a visit is The watering hole which is on the beach, a great place to go!

Overall, The Ponsmere is my favourite hotel and Perranporth is my favourite place in the world to be.
I've been going here with my parents since I was 4 and since I was 16 I've visited with my boyfriend of the time too and enjoyed myself equally each time.
A beautiful location and a hotel with everything you could possibly ask for, what more could you want? Great for families and couples of all ages!
