Advantages: Fantastic food and atmosphere
Disadvantages: Quite expensive meals
Today has been a beautiful day, walking in my local area of Glasson Dock I walked down part of the Lancashire Costal Path to Conder Green , a hamlet close by. I knew exactly what site I would see as I walked by ( oh alright into !! ) the Stork Inn at the end of the lane.
I was right - I saw a lovely old building, glistening white in the sunshine, bedecked in colouful flowers and the seats outside full of ramblers, dog walkers and cyclists enjoying a refreshing pint or a meal.
The Stork is an absolutly adorable old English Country Inn, a traditional beamed coaching inn that dates back to 1660 in the little hamlet of Conder Green. It is only 3½ miles from Lancasterand it located on the estuary of the River Lune where it meets the River Conder close to the Lancaster Canal.
Inside there are many old original features, low ceilings, exposed beams, a delightful ingle nook and in the winter there are always roaring log fires.
As well as being a pub The Stork also offers great accomodation in their 9 en-suite rooms.
The cost for a DOUBLE OR TWIN ROOM - is £70 for 1 night, £65 for 2 or more nights (based on twin occupancy) , a SINGLE ROOM is £45 per night,
a FAMILY ROOM is £100 per night (based on two adults & two/three children under 16)
All rates are per room per night inclusive of VAT.
Some of the rooms can accommodate an exta air-bed for children under 12 at an additional cost of £10 per child per night, inclusive of breakfast.
All including Full English Breakfast. Dogs are allowed and cots are available.
Children are very well cateed for at the Stork, there is an indoor play area for the winter or colder days with toys, books etc to keep the children busy.
There is also outdoor play area is in the top garden with a large climbing frame with a slide and swings, plus a small enclosed outdoor play area with a large sandpit and toys for smaller children, aged 4 and under.
The Stork has recently won an award for the standard of its children's food - and it really is a great menu for kids. Just look at this for a kids menu which has been designed with healthy eating in mind!!

The big surprise is though with The Stork is that stillan old coaching inn in appearances, still typically English - it has now adopted a subtle South African theme courtesy of new owner Tracy Fairbrother, who emigrated from South Africa 10 years ago and last year bought the pub.
This doesn't mean that the building is festooned in South African flags, apart from the odd wooden giraffe you wouldn't know that there was an African influence until you read the menu.
The said menu is full traditional British favourites, South African specialities and vegetarian choices . So dishes like gammon and egg, local battered fish and chips and potato cakes with smoked haddock, leeks & parmesan, served with red onion marmalade & mixed leaves are on the menu next to such dishes as Boerewors, a lightly spiced coarse beef sausage, served on a mixed sweet potato and maris piper mash with a rich tomato and onion gravy or Kassler rib chops served with apple chutney and mash.
As is very common in this area of Lanashire, most of the food is sourced The finest produce from around Lancashire & the South Lakes .
One good thing I like about the menu is that half portions are available for most of the meals on the menu - great for people with a smaller appetite or older children.
And a quick point - the chips are too die for!!!!!!!
If you have room after a meal all their yummy desserts and cakes are baked there.
The Stork is open daily from 10am serving morning & afternoon tea, coffee & cakes, lunch from 12pm to 2.30pm & dinner from 5.30pm to 9pm. Breakfast is available to non-residents on Saturday & Sunday from 08.30 to 10.30am and has a private function area available for up to 50 guests.
During the summer months there are also regular BBQs
To find this wonderful little pub take J33 from the M6, take the A6 north towards Lancaster. After ½ mile, in the village of Galgate, at the 1st traffic lights (Spar on right) turn left, go under the railway bridge, take 1st left sign posted Conder Green. Travel 3 ½ miles leaving Galgate village, over a severe hump bridge crossing the canal, along a windy road through farmlands to a T-junction where the estuary flood plain opens out, turn right and The Stork is straight ahead.
If travelling by bus you need the 89 (The Wyre Villager) which leaves Lancaster Bus Station to Knott End daily from 08.40 to 22.40 at 2 hourly intervals.
From Knott End to Lancaster Bus Station, the 89 arrives at The Stork daily at 08.10 & 10.20 to 22.20 at 2 hourly intervals. The Stork is actually a bus stop en-route.
Summary: Do give it a try - you know you want to !!!
