Advantages: Excellent and picturesque setting of a quality cosy hotel with a bar you wont want to leave
Disadvantages: no breakfast!
The two brewers hotel is a small but charming hotel in the picturesque and very English village of Chipperfield. in Hertfordshire. Chipperfield is about 2 miles from Kings Langley which in turn is out about 2 miles north of Watford... but don't hold that against The Two Brewers!.
Living near Chipperfield I have long been a frequent visitor to the village. It has the compulsary village green onto which the Two Brewers overlooks, where cricket is played and families picnic on the well kept lawn complete with red phonebox and ancient oak.
History
Founded as an alehouse in 1799 by Robert Waller At one time it consisted of three old cottages, but it is now a low-slung building with paned windows looking out on to the common and village cricket pitch. It really is the archetypal ageless English scene.
The pub acquired fame as the training quarters for many notable 19th century prize-fighters such as Jem Mace, Thomas Sayers and Bob Fitzsimmons who sparred in the Club Room and took their runs round the nearby Chipperfield Common. The brilliant Peter Sellars when he was married to Britt Ekkland, used to own the vicarage on the Green and used to dine there often with a host of movie legends
The Accomodation.
There are only 20 rooms at The Two Brewers which really give it that comfy feel accentuated by the log fires in the dining area. The rooms are functional and quite spacious. The linens were clean and the bed comfy and there were two additional chairs in the room along with a decent sized television with remote. I admit most of my time was spent in the warm and hospitable bar enjoying the genial and friendly atmosphere in the adjoining pub, so I couldn't tell you what the channels are. The bathroom was clean and stocked with the usual bathroom goodies for you to take home and if you are like me in the sense you have the "if its not nailed down its yours" attitude to hotels then you wont leave disappointed here.

Food
I have dined there on a number of occassions and cannot recommend the food enough. It is simply sumptious and for a list go to
http://www.twobrewers.com/food.html
The food is reasonably priced and i would heartily endorse the whitebait starter followed by the lamb cutlets..... devine!.Have a look at the specials as they really can be quite fantastic and locally renowned, especailly the fish. Vegetarians are catered for witha good selection of nut roasts or tofu or whatever vegetarins eat these days...
Staff
The staff were all young and very friendly. Polite yet familiar, in the good way that makes you feel welcome and at home. Quite a bit of united nations in terms of staff nationalities but all spoke perfect English.
Cost
The cost of the rooms vary depending on weekday or weekend. Twin and Double available with no price variance difference. I stayed two weeknights, booked through www.laterooms.com at a cost of £90 per night breakfast not included. Week nights are £60.
Overall
A very pleasant stay. Quiet, picturesque location steeped in natural English beauty. Not cheap, there are other hotels of a lesser quality and national chain feel about 3 miles away that are cheaper, but with The Two Brewers you get quality and comfort in a tranquil location. A cosy hotel with a warm ,friendly and inviting atmosphere. A real treat during summer, even more so when the morris dancing is held on the green!.
