We visited this hotel as a last treat for us as a couple before I gave birth to our first child last year. We went just after Easter in early April as a birthday treat for my husband and paid for it through the Tesco Clubcard Voucher scheme, which worked a treat.
This is a lovely hotel, situated in a fantastic location, right in the centre of Bristol, with its own parking as well. The outside was tidy and clean, and the inside matched, with a lovely light and airy bar/restaurant/breakfast room looking out onto the street. The staff were very helpful, and although our room was not ready when we arrived an hour early, we were given another room after a little wait.
Unfortunately, this is where the problems started. Not only was the bed quite a small double, and a very bouncy one at that (not good when you have a big bump which means you're uncomfortable at the best of times!). The room was ok in size, and was clean and tidy, I wasn't expecting anything fantastic seeing as we paid with vouchers. The ensuite was nice enough as well.
It seems however that someone had neglected to tell us that this hotel, even though it's a 4 star hotel, has been chosen by one of those hen/stag night companies. This meant that our quiet relaxing weekend away, turned into such a nightmare we very nearly left in the middle of the night as we weren't getting any sleep anyway. The walls between the rooms are so thin, we could hear everything that was said, as well as the tv in the room next door. Bearing in mind the people next door, and on most of the corridor were on a stag weekend, this was at all times of day and night.
The hotel was full, so although the staff were very helpful, they couldnt' move us to another room.
The spa is small, but nice and clean. If you're pregnant it's a bit of a disapointment due to the fact that they won't give you many of the treatments, and you can only use the pool, but that would probably be the case in most spas.
Breakfast was a good selection of cold and warm food, which was mostly self served.
Check out was easy, and the staff were very apologetic regarding what had happened, but I have a feeling it wasn't the first time. We did get the parking for free due to the problems however.
All in all, a nice hotel, but probably best to stay midweek in case of unwanted noisy neighbours.
Summary: What could have been such a nice weekend spoiled, nice building, shame about the clientelle
