Thistle Hotel (Glasgow)
Advantages: Great placement, excellent staff, beautiful rooms, good value for money
Disadvantages: Poor views but is in city centre so to be expected
A couple of years ago I decided to treat my wife and take her for a meal in Glasgow city centre but wanted to make sure it was special and so looked around to check on any hotels I could find that were offering luxury at a reasonable price when I came across the Thistle Hotel so decided to book for a night in a double room and also book the breakfast so we could go shopping the next day on a nice full stomach so here is my experience of the hotel.
This hotel is very well situated with it taking literally 2 minutes to walk to the beginning of the main shopping streets in Glasgow (for those who don't know much of Glasgow the shopping area has 3 main streets which all link up). It is also near the Buchanan bus station, Glasgow Charing Cross train station and Glasgow Queen Street train station so offers up excellent transport links with little effort.
The hotel is very nicely decorated with a real feel of luxury and care throughout so is perfect for those special occasion stays which is why I have been back with my wife about 3 or 4 times now.
The hotel has its own bar and restaurant, both of which offer good quality produce at a reasonable price (cheaper than I imagined for the quality of the hotel).
You can order room service with the staff who deliver this always being extremely friendly and more than happy to help if you need anything else (my wife asked for ketchup and they came back within 3 minutes with this which is excelletn when you consider that they needed to use the lift to go both down and then come back up). The room service menu is good with a nice quality of product on this but as you will have a tray charge of £5 then I advise to ensure you order extra drinks rather than needing to go down to the bar when you don't feel like it or needing pay another £5 for a couple of drinks).
The rooms are very well sized with plenty of space for luggage and or shopping and don't feel cramped whatsoever.
The beds are big luxurious beds which offer a very comfortable nights sleep as well as a comfortable vantage point for watching the large flat screen tv you will have in your room.
The breakfast is very nice and offers you the chance to help yourself to a huge variety of produce including croissants, breads, toast, sausages, bacon, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, hash browns, juices, cereals and more. There is also someone at the hot food section incase you wish an egg to be cooked a certain way other than that in the main serving trays.
The staff are all very smartly turned out and professional yet friendly which is one of my main reasons for being such a fan of this hotel.
The view from the room is not great but if you are in a city centre then you are aware you are making sacrifices for the placement of your stay.
Overall I highly recommend this hotel to anyone and thanks to it being at the top of the hill your shopping day will be a nice walk down a hill so you can have a nice relaxed stroll.
Summary: A highly recommended hotel and one I have been back to many times
