Advantages: Handy, cheap, and clean

Disadvantages: Very basic, but that's what you pay for

I've come across some unkind and dismissive repots about Travelodge over the last few years, and mostly from disgruntled tourists from a country several thousand miles away, without putting too fine a point on it.

The first thing to remember is that you pay for what you get; you can't expect the Marriott for less than 70 quid a night. I have stayed in 2 Travelodge outlets in Kings Cross over the past couple of years (the other being at the end of Grays Inn Road) , and both have been relatively clean, tidy, and the staff have been okay too.

The rooms are basic, admittedly; mine was a single and a bit pokey, but it was comfortable, the telly was small but it worked, and the bathing facilities acceptable for the price. The breakfast area isn't the largest (space really IS at a premium in London!) but the food is well cooked, hot, and edible.

One of the principal drawbacks about staying in the Kings Cross area is that it has an unsavoury and perhaps deserved reputation, what with the vice and alleged criminality. But, hey, I found it to be okay, and for me it's very handy for St. Pancras and the major Underground arteries.

My view is that, having stayed in some so-called 'better class' hotels in London, the Travelodge does the job its designed to do, and is quite acceptable.

Summary: No real problems with this place
