      Great for Gatwick (20 miles)and Handy for Heathrow (50 miles), situated on the A23 between Horley and Redhill, next to the Mill House Beefeater. We stayed there on Tues 3rd April 2001, for one night, as we had an appointment in Croydon the next morning. ~Booking~ Booking was really easy. Technophobe Mr Moomin even managed to get the information from the internet at work (www.travelinn.co.uk) before chickening out of on-line booking and phoning up to talk to a real person. He was told that our first choice, Croydon, was full, but that Redhill was the nearest, and cheaper too. Hurrah! So he gave his details, and that was sorted. We knew we would be arriving quite late that evening, but couldn't give a definite time, and were told that was no problem. ~Price~ At £40.95 per room per night, regardless of how many people stay, this is a very competitive price. Travel Inn Metro and Travel InnCapital cost more, but Redhill is one of the lowest-priced Inns, as it is some way from a City Centre. ~Location~ From Birmingham we drove to the M25, then came off at junction 8 on to the A217, and right through Redhill on the A23 until we reached the Travel Inn, on the left. A word of warning, it is very easy to miss, as it is actually behind the Mill House Beefeater and uses the same driveway. The first sign you see is for the Beefeater, with the Travel Inn logo at the bottom. In fact, in the dark we went straight past it, but there is a place just a little way further up the road where you can turn round to get back. It took us 2.5 hours to get there, and we arrived at 9:30pm. There were plenty of parking spaces available in the large car parking area. ~Reception~ The reception area was clean and welcoming, with flower arrangements and a table with chairs in the foyer. On one wall was a rack with all sorts of local information leaflets, on another was a giant map of the UK with all the Travel Inns marked o
      n it. I also noticed a telephone booth in the foyer. Checking in was simple, and the staff were pleasant and presentable. We were given the option of booking breakfast and paying for everything at once, which we did, as it would save time in the morning. We were told that breakfast would be served between 7 and 9am, where to go for breakfast, and then directed to our room. ~Room~ BEDROOM The room was very spacious, with a giant double bed(are you listening, Sexy Kay?). As it was just the two of us, we were in a non-smoking double room, but Redhill has a mixture of Family rooms (which sleep up to 2 adults and two children under 16); Double rooms; and rooms specifically for the disabled. In total 48 rooms are available. Our room had a large desk area with a chair, and also a small table with an armchair, as well as adequate storage/hanging space, and the requisite Gideon's bible beside the bed. I offered to read some to Mr Moomin to help him sleep, but he declined. There was also a television (with no SKY), but no telephone in the room. The tea/coffee making point was well set-out, but very sparse - only 2 sachets of coffee, 2 of tea, 1 hot chocolate and 4 little milk servings. It was enough for us, as we arrived late and only wanted a hot drink in the morning, but if we'd arrived earlier and both fancied a coffee we would have not been able to make the drink of our choice the next morning. I also noted that no stationary was provided - I would have expected a small pad of paper and pen on the desk, at the very least. I imagine that the main clients of the Travel Inn are business people, that would appreciate a pen and paper for those 'night-time notes', especially if they've forgotten to bring some. However, on the desk was a handy information pack about Travel Inn, with details of what facilities were available, and information like how to set the alarm on the TV, which was very useful.
      BATHROOM The bathroom was incredibly clean, with a bath/shower, sink and toilet. There were plenty clean towels, arranged on a heated rail. I was particularly impressed with the 'Go for Green' label on the towel rail, explaining that if you were staying for a second night and didn't mind using the towels again, you should leave them on the towel rail and they would be left for you, and if you wanted clean towels, you should leave the dirty ones in the bath for collection. They logic behind this is one of energy saving by creating less washing, thus helping the environment. However, there was a distinct lack of toiletries provided in the bathroom, with only two small packets of soap set out. No shower gel or shampoo, which I had expected to find. Again, if a lone business person arrived late then realised s/he'd forgotten his shampoo, he'd have to wait until the next morning and go and buy some from reception. ~Sleepeasy?~ We both slept very well here, the bed was comfortable and the room was neither too hot or too cold, although it did have electric heater in the event of it getting too nippy. There was very little noise - the occasional aeroplane went over, and the background sound of the A23 was ever-present, but nothing we couldn't sleep through. Although there was only one pillow on reach side of the bed, more were provided and were easily accessible. As with all these sorts of places, if you have a no-smoking room you will still smell stale smoke permeating through the walls/ceiling, but it was never overpowering and the linen smelt clean and fresh. ZZZZZZZ ~Breakfast~ The Redhill Travel Inn is right next to a Beefeater pub/restaurant, which serves food all day as well as drinks. A menu is provided in every room. However, we were only interested in breakfast! You can book Continental or English breakfast on arrival, then all you have to do in the morning is give
      your room number to the waitress. Again, the standard of service was very high. We chose the full English fry-up, of course . . To begin with there is a choice of fruit, yoghurts, cereals, fruit juice and grapefruit - of which you can have any or all of the above. It is set out on a big table and you just help yourself. The waitress then took our orders for the fry-up, and within 5 minutes it appeared on the table, steaming hot and exactly as ordered. The choice is as follows: Egg (boiled, scrambled, poached or fried); grilled sausage; grilled bacon; hash brown; tomato; and mushrooms. Again you can have any or all of the above, or swap one item for another ie an extra sausage instead of bacon. I chose a poached egg (which was done to perfection) with baked beans instead of tomato, hubby had the lot, with a fried egg. Needless to say, the plates were cleared! This was followed by toast (white, brown or mixed), and a choice of tea or coffee. The breakfast was a gastronomic triumph - not a huge portion but very filling, and for £6 was great value for money. The Beefeater itself was clean, spacious, and well-organised. ~Other~ Redhill is one of the Travel Inns that has a meeting room available, which holds 20-25 delegates. It costs £80 per day and the price includes water/squash/mints/paper and pencils and use of a flipchart. For an extra £30 you can have the use of an OHP/screen, or a TV/Video. ~Conclusion~ For the price we paid - £52.95 including breakfast - I thought this was a good place to stay, and would certainly stay here again. Compared to its competitor Travelodge the toiletries/drinks facilities in the room are not so good, but the overall standard was very high. It took us 3/4 of an hour to get to Croydon in the morning, which is how long the friendly cleaner told us it would take after 9am, and we arrived at the appointment well-fed and refreshed after a good night's
