Advantages: Central location.

Disadvantages: Noisy.

I stayed at the Aberdeen Travelodge Central during a business trip to Aberdeen around seven months ago. The location was spot on, right in the middle of the city and close to everything I would need on a short break. The hotel is very large so I had no problem getting a room as I only gave a few hours notice. I was staying for four nights Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

On arrival I was very impressed with the speedy service that I was given it was a Thursday night and it was late night shopping in the city and the reception desk was very busy. The cost of a room is very cheap, I think it can go as low as fifteen pounds if you book in advance but mine was much more as I hadn't booked with more a few hours notice.

As I walked to my room I was passed by several guests heading out for the night and several hotel staff who were very friendly and had no hesitation in pointing me in the right direction towards my room.

The room itself was extremely basic but had everything I needed for a short business trip where I would be out most of the time anyway and only in the room sleeping. The room was ensuite, had tea and coffee making facilities and a television. Everything was very clean and smelt fresh. The ensuite was small but contained a shower, toilet and wash basin and was clean and tidy with fresh towels.

After a few drinks with colleges in town I ventured back to my room which looked onto Union Street (the main street in Aberdeen). The time was around 23:30 and it was very noisy outside. I guess this is as a consequence of being so central in city centre there is a lot of noise from people out on a night out. However I had ear plugs and a good night's sleep was had.

The following three nights were all very pleasant although on the Saturday evening I was woken by a group of guys coming in from a night out but again I anticipated that being a city centre on a Saturday night.

Food wise the hotel offered a cooked breakfast which I did not take up due to very early meetings a short distance north in Dyce so I can't comment on their quality other than they smelt very good as I walked past the breakfast room on my way to the hotel entrance.

All in all a pleasant place to stay, nothing fancy but perfect for a short break or a business trip. Just remember your ear plugs if you stay during the weekend as the central location is a little noisy.

Summary: Good value, central and pleasant.

As a native I've never had to stay there, just stay with friends and family when I go back. As for Union Street - it resembles hell on earth on Friday and Saturday nights.
