Advantages: Very reasonable price, central yet quiet location

Disadvantages: No light near the desk, very basic furnishings

We've been wanting to go for a weekend in Edinburgh for quite a while, so when travelodge had a £10 a night room sale on we jumped to go. We got the Friday night for £10 and the Saturday for £19, which was still a great bargain.

You can check in from 3pm, so we did have to spend a fair bit of time carrying heavy bags before we could go up to the hotel, so by the time we could go drop off the bags we decided to get a taxi. Be aware there are a lot of travelodges in central Edinburgh, so we were first taken to the wrong one! A taxi from Waverley station cost about £7 if we hadn't gotten lost, although Haymarket is actually closer if your train stops there.

The hotel is only about a 20minute walk right to the centre, so lots of activities and restaurants nearby. The area is quiet, and mostly residential. We were lucky in that we were given a room overlooking the river, so had a lovely view.

Each room has a storage heater, desk, bed and light. It is very basic, but our room was spacious and clean and thats what is important. Towels are provided. I wouldn't ever go here for a romantic retreat, but for a budget weekend away its fine.

Summary: Would stay again but not worth the full £49 or £69 a night price tag.
