Advantages: Cheap, good stopover, clean
Disadvantages: Uncomfortable bed, not the best facilities
We booked this Travelodge recently when we were visiting Hastings. We only wanted the room for an overnight stay so we were not looking for anything special. I managed to get the room in one of the sales and paid just £12 for a family room. The Travelodge is situated 20 miles outside of Hastings.
The Travelodge was easy to find. We used the sat nav and typed in the postcode, the sat nav hadn't quite said we had reached our destination but the large sign pointed us in the right direction. It was easily accessible from the main roads so I imagine that without a sat nav it would be easy enough to find. There were plenty of free parking spaces available and next to the Travelodge there was a Little Chef and a garage which also stocked the basics.
When we got inside we were greeted by a very friendly woman who asked our names and gave us our room key, she also politely laughed at my other halfs terrible jokes and was very cheery. She gave us directions to our room and then left us to it. Also in reception there were numerous leaflets about attractions in the area and vending machines stocking drinks, snacks and any essentials you may have forgotten such as toothpaste.
Our room was upstairs and through two doors. It was easy to find and we got in with no problems. The room was pretty basic, a bed, wardrobe, sofa (which is also a pull out bed), TV, tea making facilities and an en-suite. There was a funny smell in our room which was rather off putting and it stayed through until we left the next morning, to begin with I was quite annoyed with this but I must have got used to it in the end as it didn't seem to bother me so much!
The en-suite was ok, it had a bath aswell as a shower and was quite clean. The tiles were cracked in places but it was clean which is the main priority for me. The shower worked well and was very warm!
The facilities in the room were ok, the TV had freeview but one of the speakers was smashed which just looked a bit tatty. The bed covers were fresh and felt very soft and clean but I must say the bed was very uncomfortable! The mattress was thin and I could feel every spring, this made my nights sleep quite uncomfortable. I could hear the traffic in the night but this was to be expected as we were on a main road. I awoke early the next morning probably due to the traffic and the mattress, the curtains blocked out most of the light but were not blackouts so some was shining through.
We left early the next morning and opted out of breakfast but I understand this is available if you would like it.
Overall, our stay here was what we expected. You really cannot expect a lot for £12 and I think that Travelodge did a good job in giving us somewhere to sleep for the night. This was all we wanted the room for so we were happy enough. The facilities in the room were ok but the staff were very friendly. I would visit here again because it provides good quality for money.
