Disadvantages: Unbearable noise from clubs till 4a.m. [dont go here if you want to sleep]
Travelodge Cardiff Central must rate as one of the poorest hotels we have stayed in. Whilst the location is perfect for visiting Cardiff for shopping and attending theatres and stadium etc. It,s located above and beside nightclubs and unfortunately the noise is fairly unbearable at night. On the first night of our stay [Friday 5/01/07] the nightclubs did not close until 4a.m, so therefore we were unable to get any sleep with the continuos unbearable boom, boom boom of the club music as well as the clatter of bottles being thrown into skips etc. I eventually dropped off to sleep just after 4a.m, but was awake again at approximately 6-15 a.m. by the sound of rainwater pouring down from a broken gutter 2 floors above and drumming on the roof outside our window. I requested a change of room for our second night there as I explained that we have had no sleep. They changed our room from 1st floor to 3rd floor and assured us this was much better [they are aware of how bad the noise is but they are completely indifferent to the guests needing a nights sleep]. Unfortunately, on the second night, when we returned to the Hotel after our night out, we found that the noise was only marginally reduced by being up higher and another restless night followed.
We also found the Hotel to be in a fairly run down condition [I had to hook the ends of the curtains up to the runners in our room so that we could close them properly and the net curtains were disgusting]. Also there were windows hanging off!.
We also found some of the staff surly and unhelpful [guests seemed to be a nuisance and they would rather watch the telly]. The two people [1 man and 1 woman] on duty in the breakfast room on Sunday morning [7/01/07] were only interested in watching MTV [very loudly] and made there annoyance perfectly clear when we requested it to be tuned to news 24 and volume turned down. The woman turned it off!! and stomped into the Kitchen [she had been lounging on a sofa with her feet up on a coffee table], where she proceed to clatter dishes etc. A few minutes later, her and the man started singing [badly and loudly] much to our and other guests annoyance.
During our two night stay we spoke to other guests and they also found the noise unbearable and some staff [again in the cafe/breakfast room] rude and indifferent. The other guests we spoke to, like us, will never be staying in this hotel again [or any other Travelodge for that matter], we will also be making sure that all our friends and family are aware of our experience with Travelodge.
Summary: Noisy, run down hotel with indifferent staff.
